Backwater alleyway
It was a rainy day, that day. Droplets of water tinkled down from the roofs, gushing through the gutters. A cold wind blew, pulling the already soaked cardboard box to pieces, filling the alleyway with pieces of wet brown.
Nana trembled in the wet. Why did it have to be so cold? The cold wasn't really the problem, though. The rain was. She hated rain. She hated water. She hated wet clothes. She hated hated hated wet fur, and she despised this feeling of helplessness.
Why did it have to rain?
Edward Elric pondered this as he walked down the road from the train station, "pondered" being a kind term for his downright crappy mood. Alphonse said something to him, but he didn't bother listening. Why can't the train just go on all the way to Central House? he thought.
He didn't even notice Al had stopped walking until he shouted. Ed turned to see Alphonse pointing down an alley excitedly. Probably another drowned cat.
He walked over, and looked towards the alley. A loud "splat" resounded as a piece of soaked brown hit his face full force. "Alphonse…" he growled, swiping at the cardboard piece. His hand slipped. His hand slipped!
He clawed at the stupid paper in a rage. It dares defy me? Now even a stupid piece of paper defies me!
He heard a… giggle. A feminine giggle. He froze, finally allowing Alphonse to wipe that stupid cardboard box piece off of his face.
Alphonse said something, but Ed really weren't listening.
He saw fur. Pointy, cat-like ears. Ears! He felt faint. His legs shook. Is this for real? Then he saw the eyes. Huge, black eyes, twinkling back at him in humour. One last thought escaped him as he fell.

I will continue for at least one more chapter, since I already have the beginning of it figured out, but I give out no guarantees on genre! I really suck at genre... :P And I suck at following up, so I promise no more than one more chapter, alright? I might write more if I get some encouraging reviews though... :D
