They're arguing in his bedroom but what else is new. Just the topic, because instead of arguing about missing people, dead bodies, supernatural occurrences, and the occasional rescue, they're talking about themselves and where they stand.
"Lydia, I've had a crush on you for DECADES. As in more than one decade!" Stiles is loudly making his case, animated as ever.
Lydia let's out an exasperated sigh. "Yeah, well I kissed you and it led nowhere! Did you not want more?" She stares at him; waiting for a response but Stiles is stunned into silence.
"You never made a move." She stifles a sob having let her emotional floodgates break open. "And after …" She's trying to regulate her breathing to prevent the tears from falling. "Allison died, you just tiptoed around me …" Lydia takes in a deep breath because she's shaking. "When I needed you most, you weren't there, Stiles."
It's been ten years and Lydia can' t believe he's just staring at her like he had no idea.
She repeats herself. "I…kissed you, Stiles. That day in the locker room…" she looks down at the floor, his eyes boring into her, mouth agape. "And we've never even talked about it."
She's fidgeting with her fingers, standing by his bed, a place she feels so safe and yet at the moment she's trembling. "The only kiss we've ever shared…" She has to look at him when she says the next part because she needs to see how he takes it. "and I was the one who made the first move."
Stiles closes his mouth as he wipes his hand over it. It's a gesture Lydia is all too familiar with; he does it when he doesn't know what to say. She continues. "Was that not proof enough, Mr. Great Detective?" She couldn't help the sarcastic tone because Stiles was smart, but he was also an idiot.
Stiles drops his hands and really looks at her, like he's looking for her soul underneath her 'dark, cold lifeless exterior'.
"Lydia…" She immediately closes her eyes but only for a moment. She looks at him because he's walking across the room and he stops right in front of her. "I've always loved you. And that's never going to change."
She can hear the confidence in his voice and she's trying to stay focused because Stiles Stiliniski has just challenged her to the dumbest dare in the world. She shoves him lightly avoiding his embrace and he has the nerve to smirk.
"I know that, Stiles. But you never realized that I loved you too." The words come out shaky and he's positioning himself in front of her so that she'll actually face him.
She's looking up at him, despite her heels and he's smiling. He's caressing her face when she continues to speak.
"I just … think we have this strong connection." She wanted to pound on his chest but she also relished being held in his arms. "like some kind of emotional tether."
His lips crash into her's before she can finish and she's actually okay with it because this was Stiles, rushed and uncoordinated Stiles, who had finally made a move.
