"Theo, darling, I really do need a test subject." Pansy Nott stared at her husband and waited.

"I'd love to run out and grab some muggle for you, dear, but I need to get these things done before we leave." Theo frowned down at the papers before him. "Since Neville lost the whiny Weasley, we must be even more meticulous in securing our privacy."

"Quoting our lord?" Pansy rolled her eyes. "I want to try this potion. It might be a viable alternative to the imperious curse."

"I'll try to get someone for you tonight." Theo smiled at her and shrugged. "It's the best I can do."

"You'll forget, and all my work will be for naught." Pansy frowned and left the room with her fox trailing behind her.

"One simple muggle is all I need, but can anyone be bothered?" Pansy snarled as she descended the stairs into the potions lab. "Of course not."

Pansy frowned again and looked down into the golden eyes of her familiar.

"You would fetch me a muggle, wouldn't you?"

The fox stared up at her and blinked slowly. She bent down and stroked her familiar's head. The vixen nipped at her fingers affectionately before turning and heading up to the main levels.

The vixen slunk into the library and glanced toward the alpha pair at their long table. The pair had magic to spare. She paused in the room and absorbed as much from them as she dared. She went unnoticed as she passed through the room toward the door. She pulled in the loose power that floated around the other large ones and slipped through the wards unnoticed.

It was a good night. The moon was low on the horizon and the air was mostly dry. She dropped low, stretched her body to its full length, and scented the air. It was damp and the lure of food was strong, but the vixen twitched her nose and focused on her goal.

Using the bits of magic she had absorbed, she darted from shadow to shadow through the city streets with her prey none the wiser.

She pricked her ears at the large one that smelled acrid and musky. He was unaware of the true darkness. He was perfect.

She slunk forward letting the shadow slide from her body. The large one was too big to move through the shadows. She bit on his false skin and pulled. He snorted and groaned before opening his red rimmed eyes.

Looking up at the filthy beast, she released his pants and whimpered. He blinked and rubbed his eyes. She backed a few inches away and raised a paw as if injured. The fool followed along, too focused on her to notice as she slipped him through the outer wards with the last of her borrowed magic.

She let the creature stroke her head and used the magic of her bond to summon her mistress. The front door opened and a flood of golden light washed over them. The vixen blinked up at her beautiful mistress. There was no creature more perfect.

"Oh, you clever girl." Pansy smiled down at her before turning to examine her gift. "Oh, sir. Did you find my pet and bring her home? You simply must come inside for a drink. Thanks are in order."

The man stumbled into the house and tossed back the potion without a thought. The potion was a failure, but her mistress gifted the creature to the blonde woman that always fed her bits of bacon. She and her mates seemed to enjoy playing with the creature. Screams sounded through the house for the rest of the night. The fact that they seemed to create an melody wasn't all that unusual. The vixen curled next to her sleeping mistress, tucked up against the curve of her legs, and enjoyed the strange concert. It was soothing.
