Scorpion is definitely becoming one of my fave new shows! I don't know if the actors are playing it that way intentionally, or if Elyes Gabel and Katherine McPhee are just that bad at hiding their rumored real-life relationship (what, I was bored and I can Google!), but I've seen a Walter/Paige possible relationship since the pilot. This should hopefully end up being a collection of drabbles, one from each member of the team. I'm having a little trouble with the flow, because the show is so new, and the characters are not very fleshed out yet. Hopefully this will improve in time!
He noticed that Paige was attractive the first time he ever saw her in the diner. How could he not? Walter O'Brien may have been a genius with a high IQ and a notoriously low EQ, but he was still had all the hormones and sexual urges to be expected in a healthy 27 year old male. And she really was gorgeous, although she should get more sleep, sunlight, and probably take an iron supplement.
He put aside his observation when he left the diner for the first time that day, distracted by her son and the knowledge that he would likely never see her again, that diner not being an efficient place for him to eat given it's location in relation to his home and office. Little did he know the events of that day would throw his life back in the path of one Paige Dineen.
She impressed him, the way she handled the pressure of the LAX situation - how her quick thinking outwitted Sylvester's OCD, her experience with Ralph letting her quickly spot when he himself was stuck and unable to see past the problem, and when she stood up through the roof of a Ferrari to grab a computer cable dangling from a jumbo jet? THAT was impressive. And more than a little hot.
She was smart. Not a genius like the rest of them (although she likely scored above average on the IQ scale - she wouldn't take an official test, even for fun), but street smart, and able to process the rest of the world in a way the group generally couldn't. The way she had learned to handle Ralph, with unconditional love while working so hard to connect with him despite his emotional limitations, made her a unique fit for the Scorpion team.
Walter knew he was attracted to her, but he decided to firmly place Paige in the "off-limits" column, not wanting to cross the employer/employee line, and knowing that his low EQ would likely ruin any possible romantic relationships. Just because Walter could experience the whole range of human emotions, didn't mean he could always explain them to himself, or catch on to the hints in others. Also, he really liked Ralph, and having the opportunity to provide the safe place he and the rest of the team never had growing up was not worth screwing up.
But he liked the smell of her shampoo. And the way her eyes crinkled at the corners when she smiled at him. Her easy laugh, and how it made him feel lighter inside even if he rarely showed it on the outside.
She looked good in everything she wore, but she looked amazing in a dress. Hetty and that Homeland Security-assigned psychoanalyst were both right: He had more than enjoyed dancing with Paige once he got over the initial awkwardness of never having danced before, having an excuse to hold her close.
