Pretty Little Thing
To my Sora and my Kairi
I do not own Harvest Moon.
Jill frowned as she picked up a brilliant blue pendant from the sidewalk to Claire's farm, the pendant was famous around Mineral Town that had belonged solely to Claire, which Gray had forged for almost a year, and he had given it as a proposal gift for her, overcoming his shyness and did it in front of the town's citizens. The pendant had a sapphire crystal in the shape of a heart. There was a locket attached just behind the crystal, inside, was Claire and Gray's picture.
The pendant itself was beautifully made, it sparkled under the afternoon sun, its beauty was priceless, and Gray had poured everything- his soul and heart into making the pendant. He had mined the gem in the caves, had carved it into a nice-looking shape with total care and concentration. He had spent day and night working for this pendant.
In one word, the pendant was perfect.
The question was why was something as perfect as this was thrown away like it was some sort of a worthless trash? It was a fine jewelry; it looked like it was worn by a magical entity or a really pretty princess. If Jill were to sell it, she wouldn't worry about working for a year.
Jill wouldn't do that though, this was her friend's. It was hers and only hers, and only Claire had the authority to do whatever she wanted with this prized possession.
Jill tucked it in her rucksack, and continued to trudge down the sidewalk, she haven't visited Claire for a month long already.
"Why did you pick it up?"
Jill gave her a confused look, "What?" she questioned, "The pendant, I never wanted to see it again." She said in a cold manner. Jill only gave a small glance as she asked, "Why would someone throw this perfection like it was garbage, why?"
Claire gave a sad expression and answered, "Maybe because that pretty little thing had hurt its owner by bringing up sad memories." She went to her bedroom without a word. The door was shut as Jill remembered what happened.
Gray died two months ago. He was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago, and when he created that pendant, he got sick with over fatigue one day and died the week after. The nurse, Elli had informed them that while Gray was making the pendant his too much exertion of work had raised his leukemia to stage four.
He wanted to give Claire the ultimate gift before he dies.
Just because the pendant was pretty, doesn't mean everyone would want the pretty little thing to themselves. Not everyone, there were always exceptions.
Author Notes: Okay, this was not meant to be typed and be published, but my Sora and Kairi had begged me to type it up and publish it. Seriously, how evil can they get? It was meant to remain in my notebook forever. Nevertheless, they gave the support I needed, so uh, thanks!
