Amu was standing out on her balcony, staring off into space.
"Amu chan! Are you thinking of him again?" Ran asked, knocking her out of her thoughts.
"Mm" was her only answer as she spared Ran a quick glance.
"He's gone, Amu" Miki said, realistically
"He'll be back" was Amu's response before turning and going back into her room. She shut off her light and went to bed.
"Goodnight" the girls all said before slipping into their eggs and going to sleep.
The next day was the same as every other day. Amu got up, she got on her uniform and walked to school, alone, lost in her thoughts.
It wasn't always like this. Just a month ago, he would walk her to school every day and home afterwards. She would laugh and joke with him and things were good.
Then one day he just didn't come to meet her. No one had seen him, he was just gone.
The next day and the next she kept waiting for him but he didn't come. She was starting to lose faith that he would be back. With each passing day, she withdrew more and more into herself.
The rest of her friends had tried to be supportive and had tried to bring back the joker they all knew and loved but nothing worked and as the weeks went on, they to gave up, not on him coming back (that had happened ages ago) but on Amu.
She walked into the Royal Garden, waved at them and sat down in her seat, half listening to what was being said.
After school, she again went to the Royal Garden, spacing out as usual, and when they were done, still lost in thoughts she walked out and ran into a solid chest.
Looking up she saw the most beautiful eyes she had ever seen. At first she thought it was an illusion, that she had finally cracked and had gone crazy.
It wasn't until he opened his arms that she realized it really was him. He was back! She ran into his arms, throwing her arms around his neck. "I missed you!"
"I'm back now!" Was his response as he hugged her back, holding her close.
"Where were you?"
"It doesn't matter. I'm here now." He told her pushing her back and smiling his crooked grin.
She smiled back, unable to resist. He held his hand out and said "Come on, Amu. Let's go home"
She grabbed his hand and started walking beside him, smile so wide it should have split her face in half. Walking side by side with the boy that had finally triumphed over all of the other guys for her heart. Walking next to the one that was always there for her, no matter what, to cheer her up and to listen to her when she needed to talk. The one that would never completely leave her. "I don't know if this is love, but I think I am learning to love you, Kukai" Amu said, as they approached her house.
"I think I might be falling for you to, Amu" Kukai replied with a wink and a grin. She grinned back, as her world fell back together, piece by wonderful piece.
Hmm, weird I know but it was in my head so I wrote it down. Honestly, though I'm a fan of Kukai himself, This pairing isn't the one I normally read but it's nice sometimes for the odd one to get some spotlight :^D
