A very short one-shot of what I think could of happened in Buffalord soldier. Between when Astrid faints and Hiccup talked to the guys
Enjoy!
"There aren't any more Buffalord. They were all hunted to extinction during the Scourge's last outbreak."
Hiccup stared at Astrid. He could slowly see the sickness starting to take effect. They would have to move fast. "We don't know if they're gone for sure. We need to get out ther and find one."
Fishlegs sighed. "But we don't even know where to start looking. There's no mention of the Buffalord anywhere. It's like they were all wiped from history."
Astrid tried to stand. "Come on, I told you guys, I'm-" Eyes rolling back, she started to fall to the floor.
"ASTRID!" Hiccup slid and caught her, tenderly cradling her close.
She looked at him wearily. "Fine." Astrid disintegrated into a fit of coughing.
Hiccup looked at the other guys. "Get back to the clubhouse. I'll be there soon." As they left, he gently laid Astrid on her bed. "Come on, Astrid. We can beat this. We've dealt with far worse."
She chuckled weakly. "Snotlout...doesn't count...Hiccup."
He gave a small smile and sat beside her. "I know. I'm just trying to...Thor, what am I trying to do?"
Astrid gently took his hand. "I know what you're trying to do. And, it's working. Hiccup, if I die, there is no one I'd rather be beside than you."
Hiccup looked at her. "That isn't going to happen. Astrid, we are going to make you well again."
Astrid squeezed his hand. "What if this is it, Hiccup? What if this is the end?"
Hiccup wrapped an arm around her. "It's not. I promise you."
"Hiccup." Astrid coughed. "We do have to face the possibility that we don't all make it out of this one. Hiccup, for twenty hours after a Scourge victim dies, they're contagious. That's how the last outbreak started. So, I want you to promise me something."
He had already started shaking his head. "No."
"I want you to-"
"No."
"Hiccup."
"No, Astrid. I'm not going to burn your body, or bury you in a pit while you're still alive. We can't lose you!" Hiccup sighed. "I can't lose you."
Astrid hugged him. "You won't."
Hiccup stared resolutely at the wall. "I'm going to get you that Buffalord antidote even if it kills me." He stood. "You need to get some rest. Conserve your strength."
Astrid took his hand. "Hiccup, we are all going to get out of this. You, me, and the rest of them."
Hiccup simply looked at her. "How do you know that?"
She smiled. "Because I can't imagine a world without you in it.
