What's up, my peeps! I felt bad that it took two whole weeks to post a new chapter for Into the World, so I decided to post a little oneshot for you guys! I just thought of this scenario, and knew I had to write it! Other writers might've written something related to this, but I wanted to do my take on it. The basic plot takes place during the Ember Island Players, especially during the part with Aang and Katara. The difference is instead of Katara pulling away from Aang kissing her, she kisses him back. So... yeah! Let's get into it!
Disclaimer: I don't own Avatar: The Last Airbender (if I did, Kataang would've happened A LOT earlier :p).
Enjoy!
It was a clear night. Two benders were standing on the balcony talking about something that happened between them.
"Katara, did you really mean what you said back there?" asked Aang looking over at the waterbender.
"In where? What are you talking about?" Katara turned to Aang confused.
"On stage, when you said I was like a... brother to you, and you didn't have feelings for me."
"I didn't say that. An actor said that," Katara defended.
"But it's true, isn't it? We kissed at the Invasion, and I thought we were gonna be together. But we're not," Aang frowned, looking down.
"Aang," Katara turned to the balcony, and looked out to Yue, who was shining down at them, "I don't know."
"Why don't you know?"
"Because, we're in the middle of a war, and we have other things to worry about," the waterbender closed her eyes, "This isn't the right time."
"Well, when is the right time?"
"Aang, I'm sorry, but right now I'm just a little confused."
The airbender looked down as if he was debating something, and kissed Katara. For a couple seconds, that seemed like an eternity, there was no response. Then, the waterbender kissed him back, gripping on to the front of his robe. They pulled away breathless with a hint of pink on both of their faces.
"Katara," Aang began after a short silence, "I know we're in the middle of a war. I know that Sozin's Comet is right around the corner. But there isn't one day that goes by without me thinking about you. I'm not saying we have to be together, I just need to know: How do you really feel about me?"
The waterbender stared at Aang with her cerulean eyes. Then suddenly, she kissed him, letting her answer be an action. After a few seconds, she pulled away. The Avatar didn't say anything, he just waited for an answer.
"Aang, I..." Katara started, "I do have feelings for you. I love you, definitely not like a brother, but..." she gazed off to the ocean, "As I told you before, this isn't the right time. It's not my feelings I'm confused about, it's just how this is all going to end. How you're going to defeat the Firelord, Azula, how the world will turn out after this is all over. I know that when it's the time, we can be..." She took a deep breath, "I just don't want to focus on me. You have the whole world to worry about."
"But Katara... don't you know?" the airbender trailed off to cup her cheek, "You are my whole world."
A lone tear dripped down her cheek. She took his hand, and placed it off her face, then softly kissed his cheek, and whispered, "Please, Aang. Do this... for me." Then she walked inside.
Aang watched her as she entered the play again, and continued to stare off to the sea. When he returned, he took a seat next to Sokka and Suki, hugging his knees to his chest.
The invasion began, and the actors of Katara and Aang were standing on the submarine.
"I just wanted to let you know, Aang," the actress who played Katara began, "that I'll always love you... like a brother."
Aang smiled to himself, and glanced at Katara sitting in front of him, knowing that wasn't true.
Well, that ended differently then I expected, but I'm happy in the way that it turned out. I know that even if Katara did kiss Aang back, that this wouldn't happen, but it's a nice thought. I just wish Aang had some type of clarification of Katara's feelings instead of being left off the hook until after the war ended. But hey, he's partly to blame for this too. It's not the writing per say that I don't like from the actual scene, I just feel the characters would have been more real with each other. But what makes me feel better is knowing they do actually get together in the end... *sigh*. Sorry, guys, I kind of ranted there, but you all know how much I love this couple :). Anyway, what did you think of this oneshot? Tell me! I'd love to hear suggestions! Expect the new chappy of Into the World coming soon! See ya later, my peeps!
