Chapter One: It Begins

Kelsi Neilsen was on her way back from rehersals. Okay, that wasn't quite true. She was on her way back from rehersals for HER musicale. The play she composed, and according to Troy that meant she called the shots. And what Troy say went, no questions asked.

"If only someone would the bitch that," Kelsi emoted out loud bitterly.

It was a cold night, Troy and Gabriella had various practices for school activities, and they weren't supposed to practice until the next day. Ryan and Sharpay were meeting with their voice coach tonight so Ryan could hit on him. Kelsi couldn't say she would blame him, If a boy as good looking as that was coaching her at something, she'd flirt to her hearts content.

She hated living this far out in the country. But it was New Mexico after all, and there was a lot of country. It just made things so damn dark outside at night that you could never tell what was in front of or behind you.

A flash of steel in her mirror averted her attention from the road and she swerved, her SUV skidding into a ditch. A dark figure went sailing into the front seat, head hitting the dashboard, and a straight razor falling from their hand. Kelsi, who wasn't wearing a seatbelt, hit her door and her head cracked the window. She cried out slightly, but all pain was forgotten when she saw the person.

Kelsi screamed, her adrenaline kicking in and her senses going into overdrive. Her hand fumbled for the door handle behind her. The figure stirred, and Kelsi jumped. Her hand finally found the door handle and opened the door, only to fall out of it in sheer terror, her mindset resembling something of a caged wild animal.

She climbed to her feet and took off running down the road in front of her. Tears were streaming down her face, she couldn't feel anything except the cool wind on her face.

She could see the silouhette of her house coming up. There weren't any streetlights this far out, unfortunately. She heard something behind her that made her stop. It sounded like an engine revving.

She turned around slowly to find her car speeding towards her, the figure behind the wheel. She assumed it would have a maniacle look on its face, if she could see its face. The figure was wearing a dark hooded eskimo jacket, ala Urban Legend.

Her eyes went wide and she took off running at top speed, her house getting closer and closer. She could see the lights on. Her parents were home, oh joy.

She felt the heat from the car behind her and tried to jump out of the way, but it was too late. The front end slammed into her legs as she went up and her body went sideways, hitting the hood of the car and rolling off to the side.

She instinctively rolled when she hit the ground, and whether she was even concious or not of her injuries was a mystery. Only one thought was going throug her mind. "Play dead."

She layed there and heard the door open beside her. Footsteps got closer to her. She felt a kick to her side and a crack which she assumed was a rib. She bit her lip and was glad she was on her stomach so her expression of pain wouldn't be noticed.

She heard a sigh and the car door slam, and the car went into reverse and drove off back into town from what she could tell.

She let it get a good distance away before she started army crawling towards her house. She couldn't scream, her lungs hurt too much from her broken rib. Her brain wasn't even registering her legs at the moment, so she just dragged herself up the driveway.

She sighed in relief when the porchlights went on and the door swung open. She layed her head down on the cool cement when she heard her mother scream and her dad come running towards her, then everything else went black.
