Sekhmet

I'm out of character, I'm in rare form
If you really knew me, you'd know it's not the norm

In the morning when I wake up
I'll go back to the girl I used to be
But baby, not tonight...

While driving at the wheel, Niki found herself smiling as she glanced over and saw Micah reading a book on Egyptology. Ever since Micah found the book, his nose was in it ever since they started the long journey to New Orleans. At least it entertained him during the long ride to feed his genius mind and it got him off his mind on recent events.

God, were they tragic and intense...

The past few days have been draining, emotionally and physically, and once Niki found a place for Micah and her, they could finally start their lives again. DL's death was hard, but she had to move on and take care of Micah. Nothing could be done to bring back DL. She didn't have to. Micah's dark skin and black hair reminded her of DL all the time. His father lived through him, and a part of DL will always be living in the world.

The young boy finally broke the silence.

"It says here Hathor, the Egyptian goddess of love, was the deity of happiness, dance and music, and a protector of women."

"Oh?" Niki asked, trying to move the conversation.

Micah was finally talking after two silent hours. A lot must have been on his mind for him to be this quiet.

"She also had an alter ego called Sekhmet, the goddess of war and destruction. Sekhmet was the destroyer of men and was sent by Ra, the sun god, to slay anyone who was disobedient to him. For her to change back into Hathor, Ra tricked her into thinking the beer he had in a goblet was blood so she would stop killing things around her. She was created as a weapon of vengeance for Ra to destroy men if they did something bad."

Niki froze at Micah's words, the strings of her insides slowly pulling at her. Seconds felt like an eternity as her mind was left in a mental limbo.

Jessica...

Did gods have to worry about making ends meet for their families? Did their spouse had to take away their children in case if they got hurt? How much did Hathor had to drink in order for her to control Sekhmet? Niki was sober after fighting against her alcoholism for so long, but her thoughts stopped. She ceased to muse the similarities between ancient gods and her life, which was reality.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought that up..." she felt Micah's hand on her shoulder. "I never meant to sound..."

Their hands overlapped and she could feel the innocent warmth of her son's hand. Mother and son looked into each others eyes.

Love. Pure love. Something that hate nor anger could ever taint and understand.

Her 'Sekhmet' wasn't out... and she didn't recently felt like she blacked out, did something unspeakable and time's hands suddenly moved. As long as she had Micah to care for and he loved and supported her no matter what she did, that made her happy. A sense of normality and redemption came, every time she saw her son smile.

Niki breathed and smiled.

"It's me, baby."
