A/N: I decided to re-watch season four, and – as usual – couldn't help the surge of pity that coursed through me upon seeing Princess Mary (because yes, Henry; she is a princess) treated the way she was. I personally think that Catherine Howard deserved every rude glance or remark she received from Lady Mary. She was a petty little girl, not nearly old enough to be on the throne, and she prevented Mary from being wed – obviously not on purpose, but still…she rubbed it in her face! I'd be angry, too.
envying the queen
A pretty girl of young
With praises on her tongue
All for His Majesty the king
Who her praises has sung
.
And in the corner sits
A dainty little miss
Older than the flirtatious queen
Who still has yet to be kissed
.
She watches from afar
And with a heavy heart:
The Lady Mary, dark and quiet,
Is slowly falling apart
.
When will she be a bride?
Many a night she's cried,
Imagining a wedding day
That never will arrive
.
Oh, lest she not be wed –
The thought arouses dread –
She takes the precautions needed
To have Queen Catherine's head!
.
But saintly is Mary,
And so, though unmarried,
She flashes the queen smile after smile
And never are they merry.
