Just a fluff warning.A/N:
The song and this idea have been plaguing me for the past few weeks, so I finally decided to put it into words. Hope you all enjoy it.General Jack O'Neill had never been more exhausted in his life.
But it was over; the war was over.
They'd gotten word from all of their allies, confirming that every System Lord had indeed been wiped out.
The last of the teams had just come back, all members accounted for.
He'd heard something about a party in the commissary. He figured that was where the rest of his staff was.
Sighing, he took a seat on the stairs leading up to the briefing room.
Resting his elbows on his knees, he rested his head in hands, feeling the past few days of no sleep and very little coffee beginning to catch up with him.
Suddenly, he felt two hands begin to knead his shoulders.
He didn't need to ask who it was. He could tell by her own silence what she was there for.
Her hands continued to work their way down his back until they hit a particularly sensitive spot. His back arched at the mild spasm. Once it had passed, he turned to face her.
She obviously had come straight from the infirmary. She still had engine grease in her hair and a smudge of what looked like dirt running down her nose.
Sam had been given command of the Prometheus for this last mission. They had run into some slight engine problems along the way, and she had been the one to fix it.
The faint sounds of a song began to drift through the air, the sound growing louder as the song was suddenly pumped in through the pager system. "Would you care to dance?"
"I'd love to."
Feeling tired
By the fire
The long day is over
They gazed into each other's eyes as the song played on.
The wind is gone
Asleep at dawn
The embers, they burn on
She rested her head on his shoulder as they continued to rock back and forth.
Neither had ever felt more complete in their lives.
With no reprise
The sun will rise
The long day is over
As the song ended, so did their dance.
But the moment wasn't broken.
A kiss followed. A kiss of promises, of longing. A kiss of love.
They were so caught up in this kiss that they never saw the two men watching from the doorway, one smiling like an idiot, the other holding a camera and smiling like an idiot.
As the two man left, they shared a knowing smile.
"How soon do you wish for me to get this film developed Daniel Jackson?"
"Within the next few hours. Come on, I want that picture to be a wedding present from us."
"Then we should not delay any longer. Let us make haste to the nearest photo development center."
Back in the control room, the couple broke their kiss, smiling as the same realization hit them.
"Will you…" Jack began.
"Yes." She quietly interrupted.
He hadn't needed to finish his question. She hadn't needed to say more.
"I love you Sam."
"I love you too…Jack."
Another smile was shared before their lips locked once more.
Two people in love, finally able to express that love were doing just that for all the world to see.
