"Thanks so much for helping me review for the final, Professor. It helps a lot for me to hear the information…the words on the page get muddled after a while."
Blaine smiled at his student, seeing the honest gratitude and warmth in Sam's pretty green eyes…not that he should be noticing such things, but he couldn't help it. Sam was sweet and eager (the only student in any of Blaine's World History lectures who took full advantage of office hours and study assistance) and oh so handsome.
Bad Blaine.
"You're very welcome, Sam," he told him, watching as he packed his bag. "Honestly, it's nice to have a student who wants to learn."
Sam smiled, seemingly pleased by the gentle praise. "History's interesting," Sam agreed, then fidgeted slightly. "I'm just sorry I couldn't fit any of your classes into my schedule next term…but would you mind if I still come to see you anyway?"
Often, after wrapping up a study session, they'd allow their conversations to wander and had discovered , much to Blaine's shock, that they shared many interests. Add to that the fact that they were the same age (Sam had done a 6 year hitch in the Marines before starting college) and Blaine could admit (if only to himself) that he had a little crush on the blonde.
Pleased that he would continue to see Sam, Blaine nodded. "I'd like that…I mean, I'd be happy to help with anything I can next semester."
That got a grin that made Blaine think of sunshine.
A week later, about an hour after he had submitted and posted the final grades for all his classes, a knock on his office door made Blaine look up. To his surprise, Sam was standing there, looking nervous, but happy. Since he'd done well on his exam (a B+), Blaine figured he had to be there about something else. "Sam, come in. Is everything…."
"I wasn't asking for more help studying," Sam blurted, blushing adorably again. "When I said I want to keep coming to see you, I mean."
It took Blaine a moment to realize what Sam was saying, but, when he did….
As of an hour ago, the moment Sam's grade had been finalized and he was no longer Blaine's student, it wasn't against the rules….
"Professor? You okay? I'm sorry, I read things wrong, didn't I? I'll just…."
"No, Sam, no," Blaine assured him, realizing he'd been staring and his silence had been taken as rejection. "You didn't read anything wrong. I'd love to spend more time with you. Dinner tonight…One condition though."
"What's that?"
"Call me Blaine."
