Ice

The air stabs me

My legs run

My eyes turn upward

The moon just out of reach.

The ground cracks

My legs fall

My eyes close

The moon slips away.

The water embraces me

My breath stutters

My body shudders

The moon watches in silence.

The night air is gone

My lungs burn in the cold

My eyes turn upwards

The moon sees me through a frozen pane.

The cold leaves me

My body numbs

My eyes are heavy

The moon bids farewell.

The trees loom over the lake

They catch the first flakes of winter

My tracks are filled with glowing snow

The moon loses my eyes.

The air holds no sound

The snow gives no evidence

My fate is sealed

But the moon still calls me.
