Whew!

What a way to start my day. I was waiting for a couple of my friends at the entrance to Castle Lumborg when I noticed a small commotion down the pathway. I decided to see what was going on, as it looked like someone might be in need of my assistance.

As I neared, I noticed that a goblin was harassing a man, and had inflicted injury upon the man's arm. After speaking to the man, I found out that he had a shiny dagger that had caught the goblin's eye, and the goblin was demanding that the man give him the dagger. Since the man was already injured, I knew I had to do something. He just did not seem capable of defending himself against a silly goblin. I still do not understand why the man just didn't use the dagger on the goblin, since he had expressed an interest in joining the royal warriors. Perhaps he would best be a candidate for some other career? Maybe farming? Or even playing music for the duke, but he was definitely not the warrior type.

I digress, and now return to my story of how I helped this poor unfortunate soul. I thought that the goblin was approachable, and so I chose to politely speak to him before resorting to violence. I explained to him that he was not going to have the man's dagger, at which point the goblin expressed his understanding of the situation in a cordial manner, never really acting in an aggressive fashion toward me at all. Being a goblin, his ability to understand and reply was, of course, very limited. When I explained to him that he could not have the dagger, he quickly responded "no shiny?", and that was it. He then left and went about his business.

Although I knew my friends might be waiting for me in front of the castle's entrance, my guilt, as it so often does, got the better of me, and I felt the need to assist the man. After all, he was wounded, and, in his words, it was a "mortal" wound and he would "not be long for this world". How could I leave him there on his own? Not to mention the fact that I really didn't want him to die after going to all that trouble to help him! I quickly escorted him through town, and into the graveyard, where I knew that Xenia awaited. She scoffed at his injuries, and refused to help him with her magic. However, she did offer him a bit of food in the form of a trout, and this was just enough to help the man recover from his injuries.

All of this and my day's quest of shearing sheep had not yet even begun! I do hope my friends show up soon, as I tire of waiting here. Perhaps it is best if I go and rest, so as to conserve my energy for my later tasks. Yes, that is just what I will do.
