It's a deliberately short drabble; please don't complain about the length. This is a companion piece to the river flows, my take on River's perspective of Amy and Rory's reaction to the reveal in A Good Man Goes to War; it takes place after River has taken Rory and Amy home and they're getting ready to chase after the Doctor.

I own nothing.

"I was wondering."

Rory and River are waiting outside on the porch for Amy; after having been in a tube for nine months she's in desperate need of a shower and neither of them are going to begrudge her that. River and Rory have been sitting on the porch in silence, neither of them willing to say anything until now.

River looks over and smiles gently at Rory, who has an uncertain look on his face and won't quite meet River's eyes. "Yes, Rory?" Calling him by name, considering what he knows now is a bit of a gamble; River doesn't think Rory will ask a woman who is for all intents and purposes over twice his age to call him "Dad", it might still come across as offensive.

However, Rory doesn't notice or doesn't care and shrugs uncomfortably. "When we were stuck in America, right after the Doctor died, you were telling me about how you and the Doctor met," he mumbles. "You said how scared you were that you were going to get to the day when you first met him and he wouldn't know you." Still at a mumble, he goes on, curiosity and something like forlorn pain in his voice. "I was just wondering, why did you tell me that?"

Truth be told, River hasn't got a clue what he's talking about. Given that it's something in Rory's past she can only assume that it's something that hasn't happened to her yet. But he's given her enough information and from there River can respond with a smile.

"Simple." Rory raises his eyebrows and River nods. "Yes, simple. Just answer me this, Rory. Where do little girls go when they're sad or scared?"

Recognition dawns, and Rory manages to smile slightly.

"That's right. Straight to Daddy."
