These walls of time release, my eyes move like the drift. The cries, they resonate within. The fabric tears before me break ties between the kin.
"Ten years," Shadow muttered to himself. "Ten years since I have been left alone."
Everyone else has left this world, all of old age. The only people he could ever count on. Rouge, Knuckles, Amy, even that blue faker, Sonic. All of them, dead from old age. Even Eggman croaked. But Shadow was still there, and still the same age.
Sitting at the edge of a cliff, Shadow couldn't stop thinking about what he would do now. Granted, there were still people living on this planet, but Shadow would not have anything to do with them. None of them cared, they were all corrupt.
Reaching for a way out of this dream, I waste my breath ascending. Fears lead me astray, the past brings them to be. What's left to carry me?
The thing was, Shadow didn't know how much he cared for them until they were gone. They were always there for him, even when he didn't want them to be.
"What now?" Shadow thought. "What point is there for me to be here? All I do is, nothing." He started to think of when they were all together, working for a cause.
But a memory, the dream endures these lies forever at the edge of surviving alone.
"All of the times they helped me. And all I did was push them away." Shadow looked down the cliff, his depression deepening. "Why even bother staying here?"
But Shadow know why he was still there. He was afraid of change, even though everything was inevitable. Change happened, and for the first time ever, there was nothing he could do to stop it.
What's left as I wander. I've found a world where I am free, inside that which is truth.
All of the thoughts in his mind pushed him over the edge, and he stepped off the cliff.
The ground upon which I have grown is not the same. The fears, they've fallen away. Presently, I've found I am not alone in a world of infinity sewn.
Shadow closed his eyes, knowing the ground was closing in.
But he didn't want to die.
At the last second, he cried out. "CHAOS CONTROL!"
Mere milliseconds before he was to impact his fate, he transported to god knows where. It just wasn't this world.
Perceive within ourselves. Perceive beyond the seam, a soul evolves as well.
AN:
The song is "Jetpacks Was Yes" by Periphery and is off their self titled debut (Released on Sumerian Records in the US, and Roadrunner everywhere else, 2010). Check it out, and if you like it, BUY IT! Don't steal from artists, especially from people who are still unknown and touring in a van.
The song itself is about someone who has the "gift" of immortality, but regrets it as he sees all of his friends die, and eventually, the world.
The idea for the story came while I was waiting to go to work. I was listening to the album while playing Shadow The Hedgehog. It just struck me that, in a way, Shadow could be the one singing it.
Please review. THANKS!
