Black Shadow: A dance of the Last Watcher
Chapter 0: Prelude
In a time, far different from the one that people know now, endless war and loss dominated the ninja world.
Battles were won and lost, alongside many precious lives.
Peace was a fool's wish.
Ninja villages did not existed yet, numerous Clans, who forged and betrayed alliances which turned the tides of war.
Knitted together in a time of death and pain the Ookami, Wasure, Tsiro, Obiro and Chika clan were known as "The 5 Clans". Allies of old, they began to turn a fool's wish into reality.
To form their own village.
At the time, the Clan Wars were raging for many generations, with each new being more brutal than the last. Seeing where the endless fighting and loss were leading them, they knew that they had to make a stand or perish silently along the dying winds.
The Ookami clan was among the strongest and most flexible in skill. Their skills in Fuinjutsu could rival with that of the Uzumaki clan, yet unlike with the Izunuka, the two clans were in good relations and they shared their skills to a certain degree.
For generations their Okanins, the Ookami clan unique wolf like creature partners, were stronger, larger and smarter than any Izunuka dog, their bond stronger, as the Ookami members saw their partners as more than mere animals that followed them because of the blind, canine loyalty. It was relationship like no other, a blessing and a double edged sword at the same time.
During his youth, Torio Ookami, heir and son of the current clan leader, was a patient and brilliant, open minded shinobi which made him so much different from the rest of his clan members. At the time, the Ookami clan was settled in a forest that would vanish in years, but the woods did its purpose, sheltering both the men and beasts.
The Ookami clan was always a clan of tradition and great pride,
and even a greater ambition…
An ambition that would set the 5 Clans on the road of great trial.
At some point in the past, the members of the Wasure (Forgoten) clan were members of the elite Uchiha Clan. A branch within the Uchiha clan for an unknown reason could not awaken their famous bloodline. The "true" Uchiha saw them as a disgrace, despite their skill and strength that placed the non Sharingan members shoulder to shoulder with the rest of their brethren.
Eventually the outcasts abandoned the Uchiha clan and formed a clan of their own after what they vanished from the scene, fearing that the Uchiha clan would eventually hunt them down because they were Uchiha. During their anonymous wander they had run into the Ookami clan and decided to stick with their new ally.
The Obiro clan was famous for their Kenjutsu. Its members master less Samurai from the Iron country who started seeking new life in the war filled country.
The Tsiro clan, known for their information gathering and assassination skills, together with their infamous Kage no Maji, (Shadow Dance) a formidable technique that only the best members of Uchiha and Hyuga clan managed to ever detect.
The Chika clan was known for their medical skills, both for healing and in battle. They were strong warriors with precise chakra control.
There 5 Clans were in a tight alliance for many generations and lived close to each other, always ready to aid their allies and friends. Bonds were tightened with marriage and the 5 became inseparable, where one was seen the others were always close by and despite their small numbers the clans thrived.
With time, the old generation changed and the younger generation, harboring different ideas set forward to leave their trail in the world.
The Legend of the Sangaku Village was born.
The Kinshi Forest (Forbidden forest) became their new home after a deal of partnership between the ancient beast and Humans was struck in blood. The vast, ancient forest was where the Yama wolves will forever rule and protect and every Human who dared to enter uninvited never returned alive. When it didn't concern their home, the proud Yama wolves didn´t meddle with the rest of the world much.
The village, kept hidden by a powerful Genjutsu, was built deep inside the mountain that was surrounded by the forest. To keep it away from whomever might pass the Genjutsu that lingered in the Forbidden forest below, Tsuneo showed his skills yet again and with help of Torio's Fuinjutsu, the two comrades set up a powerful barrier that went around the village, creating a sphere-shaped barrier, Eien no Tama, (Eternal Sphere). Special tattoo seals were designed that allowed individuals to enter and leave the barrier and pass the illusion infested forest below. Branding them to their fate for as long they lived.
The people of Sangaku rarely left their new sanctuary of the Kinshi forest, thus allowing themselves to be forgotten by the Outside world and the Forbidden forest became the place of old tales that talked about ancient monsters that protected its land.
The forest itself lay deep within the Fire country, a 3-day run from the yet to be formed Konoha, but rare were those who knew of their existance.
Living in isolation, the people lived in harmony with nature and trained hard to sharpen and perfect their skills, here and then showing themselves in the Outside world to deal with business. It was a peaceful life for many years.
10 years after the village was formed, its first leader, Torio was killed by the hand of Uchiha Madara.
With his death the Evil was brought into existence. Some say it was an ancient demon, others, a spirit from the Kinshi forest, seeking revenge that never could be found, refusing to lay to rest until payment in blood was received.
The demonic wolf was as black as the night itself and during night it became the darkness itself, looming in the woods, its red eyes searching for something it had lost. No one knew what it was, as its body looked as black fire that burned its soul in slow agony.
Its howls of rage and sorrow echoed through the Kinshi forest for weeks, strengthening the old tales that kept Outsiders away from the forest.
The beast was left alone in its suffering, while the humans prayed for the creature to find peace. Eventually it did, but the same night it attacked the village.
The legend of Kage, the black Shadow, was born in hatred and fire.
Sangaku has never been the same since.
