A/N: Updated prologue! 5/26/2016

Prologue

"Commander Shepard." Hearing her name, though with the corny title, she turned around to face her older brother. They were both in her room and Ella 'Turtle' Shepard was sitting in front of her laptop playing yet another round of Mass Effect while Ratchet 'Hatchet' Shepard was behind her, trying to get her off the chair. "SHEPARD, get your aft off the chair and START PREPARING!" Yup. An attitude worth of the name 'Hatchet*'.

"But…" She turned around and pouted at him.

"Turtle."

"But…" Ratchet held up his trusty wrench and Ella paused her game sighing. She got off the chair while her brother, a Transformer fan, saved her game and quit it. Afterwards, both of them walked to the door and down the stairs they went.

"Look at all the things you didn't do! Don't you get it that your birthday is TOMORROW!" Turtle stared at him as he gestured wildly.

"I said that we were to finish preparing after I finish my game, remember?"

"That was the fifth time you played it." he answered flatly.

"Oh." Turtle cowered.

"WELL?" He waved his wrench threateningly.

"I'm sowwwwwyyyyyyyy!"

Lieutenant Commander Ratchet Shepard sighed. It was the day before THAT day. A tear dripped down from his eye as he lay on his bed. He still remembered his sister. How she laughed, how that pretty smile of her always cheered him up. He did remember much else about his past but those things didn't seem as important.

His thoughts were now about his current situation. From what little he knew about Mass Effect (Turtle doesn't talk about ME's story line, she keeps babbling about how hot Garrus is), he remembered about how the Commander Shepard is the main character. Ratchet also remembered that at the beginning, the ME Shepard is the second in the chain of command on the Normandy. Hatchet laughed bitterly at the irony as he stared at the piece of paper in his hands.

He was to be that second in command.

A/N: What do you know, I've decided to continue this, just with a different plot line than what I had in mind.
