angtsy little plot.. warning for major character death
Reid walked towards the door and glanced back at his apartment, it seemed so small and empty now. He tightened his grip on the box in his hands and walked out of the apartment without any further hesitation. As he reached the car park his beeper went off, Reid froze midstep... his heart fighting his brain as he reached for the device that always seemed to come between himself and Luke. For the second time in Reid's life he listened to his heart and flung the beeper into the bushes. Nothing he vowed to himself was going to come between them again.
He placed the box carefully on the seat next to him and made his way to Snyder Pond. On the way his cell phone rang but he simply threw it out of the window as he sped through the deserted streets, his mind and heart as one, both focused on the task in hand. He reached Snyder Pond and carried the box to the pond edge and sat down heavily. He sat there staring at the stars stroking the box gently. He still could not believe that Luke had died and left him alone. He glanced at the box containing Luke's ashes knowing now what he had to do. He could no longer live without Luke, he knew that now. Brain surgery was nothing to him without Luke to come home to.
He opened the box slowly and held what was left of Luke in his hands before scattering the ashes over the lake's surface. He did not notice the tears on his face as he emptied the box completely. He watched the ashes float for a moment on the surface of the water before slowly being absorbed into the water of the lake that Luke loved so reached into his pocket and pulled out a syringe filled with a lethal dose of morphine. He let out a sob as he removed the cap from the needle and plunged it into his arm. He injected the contents of the syringe into his arm and let it fall to the ground. He began to feel dizzy and lay back on the grass staring at the stars, as his heart stopped beating he heard a sigh from beside him and turned towards the source. His breath caught in his throat, there in the pale silver moonlight was Luke; he felt his fingers intertwine with Luke's and knew that he was home.
