Jaden lay in his bed that night unable to sleep. No matter how many times he flipped his pillow or turned over he just couldn't slip into the world of the unconscious. His brown eyes landed on his bedroom window that was right across from his bed. The curtains were drawn so all he could see were faint shadows of what was on the other side of the glass. He watched them dance along the walls like little demons who were celebrating some unknown holiday.
The emotions welling up inside him were becoming unbearable. He wanted to cry but he wouldn't let the tears that were threatening to fall descend down his face. Even in the cover of night and in the privacy of his own room he would not shed tears. If he did he would be giving into all the fears that plagued him. They ate at him like blood-sucking creatures who wouldn't be satisfied until he was bleeding dry. He would never let them overcome him.
He rolled onto his back so that he was facing the ceiling. Even when looking up he couldn't escape the shadow creatures and their dance of terror. He could almost hear their shouts and cheers. It was almost like they were celebrating his problems and feeding on his despair. Jaden thought he was over this. He thought that he had buried these emotions with all the other unhappy memories of his past. But then he comes back bringing all of the pain and sorrow with him. It hurt. The memories and pain that he caused him made Jaden want to scream in agony. He didn't, though, because then he would wake his sister and he didn't want to worry her.
One day, he and his sister would run away from this place never to look back on it again. That was his dream and that was all it was ever going to be; a dream. It would never be a reality no matter how much he wished it would. As long as he was around fear would always have him pinned to the wall. It would leave him shivering and whimpering in a corner all by himself with no one there to sympathize for him. To think, he actually thought that he and his sister could be happy here and try to ignore the jealous stares that people give them because of him. 'If only they knew the truth' is what goes through Jaden's head every time he sees them.
