Collins POV. I had sudden inspiration and wrote it in roughly 20 minutes. Hope you like! Warning: Have tissues ready!
998 kisses.
I've counted.
It sounds stupid, but to me, it was special. It was just something I did. Angel and I made a promise that we would have 1000 sweet kisses, so I wanted to know when we got there. So I counted.
From our first kiss, when Angel walked out of her bedroom, in full drag, on Christmas Eve, to the quick kiss I got before the nurse walked in, which was number 998. Every kiss was full of passion and love, wanting and desire, between a human…and an Angel.
We had been in the hospital a week. The machines that surrounded my Angel told me that we wouldn't be there much longer. And that wasn't a good thing.
She was getting progressively worse, and my heart ached to see her in this much pain.
"You okay, honey? You look deep in thought."
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"Come over here, my love." She moved over a little bit and motioned for me to come lay down with her.
"I'm afraid for you." I whispered.
"Don't be afraid. Death is just another big adventure."
"But I don't want you to die. I don't want to leave you."
"I'll always be with you. In here." She put her hand over her heart. "You have to promise me something."
"Okay, what?"
"That you'll never forget me."
"How could I ever forget you? You are the best thing that's ever happened to me. I didn't even believe in love until you came along. You changed my life. I used to hate life. I knew it would be over soon and I didn't really care. Now I know to treasure life, and treasure the people in it."
"There's one more thing."
"Yeah?"
"I want you to move on. Enjoy what you have left of life. Know that we'll meet again eventually, but until then, I don't want you moping around my apartment!" She smiled and her eyes lit up. For the first time in weeks.
"I love you, mi reina." I leaned over and gave her a soft kiss. 999. It quickly turned more passionate and loving. Suddenly Angel pulled away and began coughing.
"You okay? Should I get the nurse?"
"No." She choked out. The coughing stopped and she laid down peacefully on the pillow. "I love you. Never forget that. I'll be waiting." She closed her eyes. A tear fell down my face as she turned pale and the machines went blank.
"I love you, too, Angelcake."
I leaned down and kissed her cold lips. My love, my queen, my Angel.
1000 sweet kisses.
So, how was it? Good, bad, best thing you ever read? You get a big cookie if you review!
XOXO, Ana
