A/N: So I wasn't going to post this until I finished with the Malarkey story, but then I changed my mind and was like what the hell? Why not? I also relied on the judgement of Sairahiniel (who I prefer to call mei mei 'cause she's like my not really much younger sister, lol, we've been friends forever and yeah whatever) and she thought I should post it so bingo! (I really need to stop watchinn Inglorious Basterds). Somewhat random side note the title of this story comes from Paramore's song Decode, just in case anyone was interested.
Disclaimer: I don't own Band of Brothers or Frannie Guarnere. This is based on the miniseries and not meant to disrespect anyone. Eve Nixon is all mine though...well ok not so much true...the muse lays claim to her as well.
And now, without any more of my inane prattle, onto Decode, the sequel to Ashes & Wine.
Chapter One
"Oooo," Frannie exclaimed as she pulled a black cloche hate from the top of a nearby mannequin, "This one would look lovely with that coat you bought last week." Eve glanced up from the sunglasses she was looking at to examine the hat.
"It is beautiful," She admitted, "But if I buy another hat Eddy's going to cry." Frannie laughed as she put the hat back.
"You do own a lot of hats." Frannie agreed.
"Ms. Nixon?" Both Eve and Frannie turned as the saleslady approached. "We're ready for you." Eve and Frannie shared an excited giggle before following after the saleslady.
"I can't believe this is your last fitting." Frannie whispered as she hooked arm with Eve. "And that you're getting married in only a month."
"I know," Eve shook her head, sharing in Frannie's disbelief, "It's all happening so fast and yet--"
"Not fast enough?" Frannie finished. Eve grinned.
"Exactly." Frannie giggled.
"Now you understand why Bill and I couldn't wait. Has your sister decided if she's coming or not?"
"No." Eve replied. Blanche was being a right pain in the ass about whether or not she was going to be able to make it to the wedding. She was three months pregnant and apparently incapable of traveling. Eve knew it was a load of bullshit, but she wasn't about to call her sister out on it. "Is it terrible of me to wish she wouldn't come?" Frannie smiled and shook her head.
"Not at all."
"Good." Eve giggled. The dress she had bought almost a year ago at Mona's Dress Shop had needed more than just a single fitting since Eve had gained some weight after the first fitting. She was back to her pre-war waist size and no longer skin and bones. As Frannie waited outside, Eve entered the dressing room and slipped the dress on over her shoulders. There was a full length mirror in front of her and once again Eve found herself running her hands over the fabric. She smiled. That awkward feeling was nowhere in sight; she belonged in this dress.
"Are you coming out or not?" Frannie called.
"Why are you so impatient?" Eve called back, smiling slightly as she continued to admire her reflection.
"Because I've been dying to see the final product for weeks now."
"Oh please!" Eve snorted. "It's only been two weeks."
"As I said, for weeks! Now get yourself out here." Eve's hand curled around the doorknob and she pushed the door open, moving into the main part of the dressing room.
"Oh my." The saleslady breathed, her hand going to her mouth. Eve frowned.
"Is that a good reaction or a bad reaction?"
"You have to twirl for us." Eve raised an eyebrow, put a hand on her waist.
"Twirl Frannie? Really?"
"I didn't get to do any of this with Bill so I'm living vicariously through you. So yes, Eve, twirl." Eve giggled and held up her hands a bit as she did a small turn.
"You look beautiful." A deep voice said from the doorway. All three women turned and Eve exhaled in surprise.
"Ron."
A/N: I know I know it's a wicked short chapter, but it felt right to end it there. I know exactly where I'm going so it shouldn't take me too long to get the next chapter up and it will most certainly be longer. And I totally wasn't expecting Speirs to show up so soon and so wham! bam! thank you ma'am, but I like to think it works. Now I have to focus on finishing up the next chapter of Return and working on the silliness that is the Toye/Tab/Future Girl OFC fic that has been bugging me forever. I love reviews.
