I watch out the windows as the world passes by on this road trip. Is this the road to hell or some place new? I wonder where we're going, might as well ask.

"Hey dad."

"Hn?" Dad's focused on the icy streets, rather than the gas meter blinking saying that we're almost out.

"Uh.. Where's the nearest gas station? I think we're running low on gas.."

Dad sighs and looks at me through the rear view mirror, then nods instead of telling me to shut up.

We take a right onto a crowded street. It seems like there's been an accident, maybe we'll check it out. Mom says I've always been more interested than most people.. Maybe she's right.

We pull next to this beat up pickup truck.. We get out and look for the least people. There was a girl around my age, she looked lost and worried.

I looked at the side of her face, where her hair was blowing in the wind. God, she's gorgeous. I cleared my throat to get her attention. When I had it I asked, "So, what's going on?"

She laughed nervously and inhaled. Exhaling, she said "A man sped off the road hitting a mini van with a family of four. No one got hurt, I'm guessing. But with all the traffic, you'd think the world ended."

I swallowed and slowly gazed at the crash. I heard a baby crying and a woman yelling at the other driver. I heard a man scribbling his information onto a notepad to call the insurance place. A cop was interviewing everyone about their injuries..

The girl said excuse me and looked at my face. I looked her in the eyes and laughed a little.

"I'm Jacob. What's your name?"

"Bella.."

"Cute. I mean, nice name. I'm from Miami. Where are you from?"

"I'm from here. This part of this place. I'm from the middle of no where. I'm from Forks," Bella sighed.

I chuckled. She's got a weird way of explaining stuff. I can't believe I didn't see it before, she's a beauty.

She looked at me through her long bangs and smiled. She brushed her hair out of her eyes, "So Jacob, where are you headed?"

"Some place called La Push."

Her eyes got wide and so did her smile, "That's two towns from me. How long are staying for?"

"The summer," I like this girl. She's pretty and interesting.

"We should hang out sometime."

"Sure, sure," I laughed.

She handed me a piece of paper with some numbers scribbled onto it with a black marker. I watched her turn around when she was close to the pickup and shout, "Call any time. It's a cell phone. We'll meet up sometime. Bye."

I waved to her as she sped off. As I turned around toward the honking, my father was yelling at me to get into the car because we were going to be late. Uncle Billy was having a welcome to La Push party and we didn't want to be late, although I wouldn't exactly mind.

Once we got to Billy's house, I was smothered with kisses from my distant relatives. I didn't even know half of their names. Well, next came all the kids. They've gotten bigger since the last time I had been there.. Even though I was just a boy when I was here last. Mom and dad decided that we'd come here every summer, even after I told them that I'd be working half the time. Dad said I needed to get used to the place so that I could understand why we were actually here. Mom said to beware because we might be living here soon. I didn't speak to them for a week during our stay.

Well, Bill took a long look at me and grinned, "You're getting to be very good looking. Bet you're gettin' all the girls, eh Jacob?"

I just shook my head and stayed quiet wondering where the phone was. I found it and decided to dial that beautiful girls number.

When she answered, I smiled to myself, "Bella? It's Jacob."

"Oh, hey! I'm sorry. Could you call me tomorrow, I've got company. Bye."

The other line hung up and I just stared at the receiver. I hung up and walked to what was named 'My Room.' I threw my luggage onto the floor near the bed, and flung myself onto the bed. I stared up at the ceiling and wondered why there was a pink ceiling. Maybe Billy's girlfriend was due soon and didn't really expect us to be here so soon. Or maybe Billy just didn't get around to painting it. Yea that's it, because I know I didn't notice it last time or I didn't even have this room last time. I looked around and decided to listen to music. I pulled out my iPod and plunged the earpieces into my ears. Pressed play and listened for Dir en Grey to switch on, instead it was Twizted. Before switching it back to "Obscure" I looked at the title and laughed. Once I heard the beautiful german's voice, I closed my eyes and waited for the sky to darken.

Maybe I fell asleep with my iPod on because the battery was almost dead. I looked out the window and it was daytime, the sun was glaring through the glass. I glanced at the clock on my bed stand and it read 8AM. I sighed. I had fallen asleep. I got up to shower. I reached for my clothes and a towel, then headed for the shower. I glanced into the mirror as I undressed, I sighed when I saw the scars just below my right shoulder blade. I remember how I got those. Dad was trying to change me. He was poisoning me to become.... I shook the memory out of my thoughts. I wouldn't think about that now. I turned on the hot water and smiled when I saw the steam rise from behind the shower curtain. Just what I need, a scolding shower to calm the nerves. I washed my hair and my body, then shut off the water and wrapped my body in a towel. My long brown hair was almost glued to my face. I dried my hair, then blow dried it. I threw it into one of those black hair ties. I dried off my body and threw my clothes on. My black jeans seemed to cling to my body along with my tight band tee. I threw my work boots on and laced them real quick, then walked down the stairs while placing my iPod into my pocket.

I looked at my father and nodded. I looked at my mother and smiled. I looked for Billy, he wasn't around. Maybe he was still asleep. I grabbed the phone, dialed three numbers, looked at the clock "11AM", hung up and walked to the kitchen.

"Dad, can I use the car and maybe have twenty bucks?"

My dad looked at my mom and sighed, "Sure son. Just do me a favor and pick up some milk on your way back. Be careful. No speeding."

I grabbed the keys and the money, gave my mother and father a polite kiss on their cheek, then ran for the door. I yanked open the car door, started the car and looked for a good station. After I found something interesting, I started to drive. I didn't really know how to get into town, but I was pretty good at guessing. Unfortunately, my phone rang. It was my father and since my mother wanted me to be safe, she got me a bluetooth. I pressed a button and said," Yeah dad?" I paused, listening to him speak. He was saying something about a girl named Bella and her wanting to meet up. I asked him where did she say, and he said at La Push park. After I hung up, I looked for some place to ask for directions.

When I arrived at La Push park, I looked for that beat up pickup truck. I spotted a girl in black leaning against it. Although the girl didn't look like Bella, she was pretty too. I parked next to the truck and got out.

I smiled at the girl and looked at the man sitting in the passenger seat. I growled a little, "So, where's Bella?"

"Hey Jacob. Meet Alice," Bella said from inside the truck.

"Hn," came from the man.

"Edward, hun, be nice," Bella demanded.

The 'hun' thing stung my heart, but I couldn't really say anything. I had only recently met her. So, I just smiled, "Hello Edward, Alice."

"Hello Jacob," the two said in unison.

Edward groaned as he got out of the car and hissed. Edward was complaining under his breath, "I was okay at home. Why did you have to drag me out here? I'm not even supposed to be over here. I'm not even supposed to be out. Remember it's.. fee-----. I mean, Bella.. I'm hungry. Can I get something to eat?" He was eyeing a skinny brunette down the road.

"Edward," She yanked his face toward her. "What did I tell you about that? Stop complaining, you big sissy."

Alice just burst out laughing. She fell and was crying from laughing so hard.

"What's so funny?" I guess I missed something.

"Ed..Ward.. Pussy.. Ass," She was gasping for air.

"Alice, be nice. I mean it. Shut the hell up."

Alice stopped laughing quick and growled. She just looked the opposite way towards a handsome young man, "That's Jasper. My fiance."

"Nobody cares," Edward mumbled.

"I may not have wanted to hear that Edward, but I know damn well that you knew that I heard it," Alice even confused herself.

Jacob and Bella sighed together, then laughed a little.

"So, you uh wanted to hang out? My dad called me up and I thought he was going to burn me alive, but he told me you said to come here. So, here I am. So, what now?"

Bella laughed, "I didn't call your dad. Rosalie called your dad. She likes you. Emmett's pissed though, so you may want to watch out."

"Oh, uh, who's Rosalie?" I looked like I was going to snap if Edward didn't stop looking at me.

"Our sister. She's supposed to be older.. and more sophisticating.. I guess not," Edward chuckled a little. "If she's after a weak, little boy like you."

Okay, that's it. I grabbed Edward's shirt and threw him backwards. I watched him start crying. "Hm, how sad." I got back into my dad's car, started it, and said "See you around, Bella."

Alice and Bella just burst out laughing. A blond girl looked from Edward to me as I pulled away. She mouthed 'Wow.' That must be Rosalie, I'm guessing. Then there was a blond boy, he was fairly built. I wonder if he's as puny as Edward. Hn, maybe I should talk with Uncle Billy about these people.

Edward, Alice, Rosalie, Emmett, and Jasper were very pale people. If they were even people. All I know is that Edward is a pussy. Alice is getting married. Rosalie is really hot. Jasper is Alice's. And Emmett is a jealous prick. Uncle Billy should know these people. Maybe he'd know. Oh, and Bella was weird and beautiful.

I pulled into our driveway, cut the engine, and got out of the car. I tossed my dad the keys and asked, "Where's Uncle Billy?"

"In the garage," Dad nodded toward the garage.

I walked into the garage, and was shocked to see Billy walking around. "Billy?"

"Shit," Billy walked over to his wheelchair and sat down. "It's our little secret, right Jacob? My doctor said to only walk in the hospital, but I can't help it. I couldn't reach what I needed and I liked the feeling. So I didn't sit back down."

"Nah, it's cool, Billy. It's our secret. Hey, Billy. Can I ask you a few questions?"

"Yeah sure, kid. What do you need?"

"Who are The Cullens?"

Billy's jaw dropped then he gained his voice back, "Uh, why would you want to know about them?"

"Bella's a friend of mine, and she introduced us.. And they seemed really odd. Just between us, Billy. Who or what are they..?"

Billy sighed, "Yeah. Our secret. The Cullens are the town's watchers, but the town's fears. They're angels, but devils. Some believe that they're the devil's workers, children. Other's believe that they are blood lusters. Nocturnal beasts. They're the nicest people in the world, until they get hungry. Which leads me to my next topic. I need to ask you something. Have you ever wondered why you're so weak looking, but actually really strong?"

"Yes," I was looking at Billy's feet rather than his eyes.

"Hm, you're a werewolf, Jacob. Your father told me not to tell you until your birthday, but I couldn't help it. I was so excited. I wanted to see your reaction. Now. Not then."

I guess you could say I wasn't really shocked, but I really wanted to ask if he was kidding. I looked at my hands and laughed, "You're kidding me, right Billy? You've got to be joking." I think I was almost crying, but I choked back some tears. It's foolish to cry, even if it is just a joke. It's meant to be funny, not a water works show. Damn. Couldn't he have waited until my birthday? I mean it's NEXT WEEK. Really.

"I'm sorry, Jacob. Just act surprised when your dad tells you," he said as he left the garage and shut the door.

'Yeah, no problem,' I thought. Jeez, this was going to be hell in the end. Vampires and werewolves.. What am I thinking?
