Nothing Personal

It should be criminal for a boy to have such thick lashes.

Not to mention those full lips, those perfect, pearly teeth, or those beautiful, deep blue eyes.

Riku shook himself mentally, scowling at his thoughts as the object of his affections (stupid, naive, oblivious Sora) stretched out carelessly in the sun beside him. Those pretty eyes were locked on a single seagull, as it flew in circles in the humid afternoon air. His brows were furrowed, and Riku took a moment to appreciate how naturally well-shaped they were.

It was December 31st, but the weather in Destiny Islands never changed. Halloween through New Years, no mater what the holiday, it was always hot.

Because of this, and Sora's love for everything outdoors, the silverette found himself holding back a massive blush as his younger friend sat, completely naked except for a pair of thin, red and black swim trunks, only centimeters away from him. He could almost feel the silky softness of that sunkissed skin.. No! Bad Riku! You will not molest your best friend! Especially on New Years Eve!

Riku's resolution had been the same since returning to the islands two years prior:

Don't touch Sora inappropriately.. Until, of course, you actually get the balls to touch Sora inappropriately.

It seemed like a good enough goal to him, even if he had failed twice. Third time's a charm though, right? Maybe? Hopefully?

"Hey, Riku, do you think the paopu fruit legend is true?"

Fruit.. Yeah, he bet that's what Sora's lips tasted like.. Focus, focus!

"What?"

Not one of his most intelligent replies.

The brunette blinked at him in confusion, thin aims wrapped around equally thin legs, as his head rested on his knees. Dammit, how dare he look so cute when he could see that Riku was obviously struggling to keep his composure.

"The paopu fruit.. you know.. When two people share one, their destinies become intertwined? Do you think it's true?"

Dear Lord, those beautiful eyes were staring at him! He prayed to whichever merciful God would listen that he didn't make an ass out of himself.

"..Of course."

He mumbled, forcing himself to turn from the small male, lest he catch a glimpse of the mad flush that painted his cheeks.

The former keyblade-bearer made a small noise in the back of his throat. Out of the corner of his eye, Riku watched as he began drawing idly in the sand. The ocean current brushed their toes, erasing the blue-eyed boy's doodles every minute or so, but he didn't seem to mind.

"I always thought I would share the paopu fruit with Kairi." He muttered after some time, eyes glued to the fading drawings at his feet. ".. but I don't think I want to anymore."

In all the time that had passed since they'd returned to the island, Sora hadn't shown much interest in the redhead at all. It was strange, since Riku had expected them to practically get married as soon as they were reunited, but instead, the two just gradually drifted apart. Not that he minded or anything, seeing as he'd had the brunette all to himself without Kairi around, but it was rather curious..

"I think.." Sora drew out slowly, eyes downcast. "There's someone else I'd rather share it with."

The smile he sent the silverette then was dazzling, so much so that he almost forgot to breathe.

Someone else?! His heart clenched.

"A-and who is that?"

He found himself asking.

He always thought Kairi was his only competition, but there was someone else?! If Sora loved someone, it was impossible for them to turn him down. He was too adorable, too selfless and pure!

The brunette shook his head, pulling himself to his feet and brushing the sand from his backside. His eyes sparkled in the afternoon sun, and his smile was mischievous as Riku, too, stood. The silver haired teen missed it as he brushed off his own swim trunks.

"If you remember to ask.. I'll tell you at midnight, kay?"

The wink that followed sent the older teen into such a flurry of fondness for his best friend that he almost didn't comprehend the words.

"I–uh-"

The shorter teen took his hand, leading him to the water.

"But for now, we swim, 'cause I don't know about you, but I'm hot!"

The silverette barely refrained from adding, 'Oh, don't worry, I know.'

As he pulled the taller teen to the ocean, in the back of his mind, Sora wondered what Riku would do when he confessed that he'd loved him all along.

Fin.

So, there it is! My first Kingdom Hearts fanfiction.

I've been working on another for the last month or so, but as it's around eleven to twelve pages long on paper, it's been a total bitch to type. I just wanted to get some KH lovin' out there before the new year starts.

So sorry if it's a bit half-assed. Not my best work, but I'm happy enough with it.

Of course, feedback would be fantastic! Happy New Years everyone!
