Chapter 1: Introduction to a Thief

* * *

Yo.

Who the hell are you?

Wait . . . who the hell am I?

I thought I was a painting.

Hm.

Hey. You never answered my question. Who the hell are you?

Me?

Nooo. The other person here.

Um. . . I'm . . . I'm Katsura Niwa.

Katsura Niwa? Well. I'm Dark.

Oh. Why. . .how?

Beats me. I think you interrupted something.

Oops. Sorry.

It's fine. Don't worry. Anyway, Katsura Niwa, you wanna figure this out together?

Sounds like a plan to me.

All right then!

And thus, a friendship is born, a warm, caring relationship that lasts for an eternity.

The young woman sits across the table, waiting for her new interview subject to arrive. She checks the clock on the wall, arching an eyebrow slightly. Her subject is late. She folds her hands, opening her notepad to a blank page as the door swings open and a lanky figure walks in, dressed in pure black, garnet hair hanging in amethyst eyes, a cocky smirk on thin lips. His uniform is all black, crossed belts and chains hanging from his waist, chains on his wrists as well. His amethyst eyes are clear, holding silent laughter, sparkling with it. He holds himself with a cocky form of confidence as he knows who he is and that everyone is nothing like him. His garnet hair is spiked out at every imaginable angle, hanging in his eyes, setting off the amethyst. He drops into the chair across from her, leaning back, grinning at her. She struggles not to grin back, reaching out, clicking the digital recorder sitting in the middle of the table on.

* * *

Heya beautiful. How are you today? You are Grace, right?

So, you wanted to interview me. Well. . . you're lucky. Not many people get a reply of yes. Why'd I say yes to you then? 'Cause you interviewed Krad. That's why. If you can get him to talk, you've gotta have some sort of skill. When you said you'd talked to that blond asshole, I figured I should talk to you.

What's the first question?

Where'd I come from? Well, as I'm sure Krad told you, I'm half of a painting. He's the other half. I'm sure you've heard how the painting was split, so I won't go into that again.

I've been part of the Niwa family for a long time. They're pretty good. My present tamer is a kid named Daisuke Niwa. Man, it was funny as hell. It was on his fourteenth birthday when I made my first appearance. I kinda felt bad for it, 'cause he had a really bad day. He got dumped by the love of his life, then nearly killed by a trap his mom had set up for him, then I had to appear. Well. . . I didn't really appear. He just took on my form. I took over his mind and body when we got caught. Poor kid. Nearly had a heart attack . . . just like my first tamer. I can tell you the whole story sometime if you want.

What else do you want to ask?

My favorite tamer? Hmm . . . that's a hard one. It was quite fun with Daiki. And Daisuke's a wonderful tamer. I guess. . . I don't really know. Most all of my tamers have been much better than Krad's tamers. The Niwas are not afraid of me. They do not harm me.

I guess . . . you could say that my favorite tamer is Daisuke. He's a really hyperactive kid, who tends to yell a lot. It's fun being trapped in someone so high-strung. It's really easy to push his buttons. I have too much fun doing that sometimes. Daisuke is a good tamer. He gets really worried about me sometimes. It's cute. He's a great kid. Even if he's high strung.

The violet haired angel leans back in his chair, laughing. He shakes his head slightly, his long bangs rustling. He grabs the cup beside his hand, drinking from it, then straightens slightly, shifting to become more comfortable.

* * *

It's funny to remember the first time I appeared. My tamer had just awoken after being knocked out by the blast of magic. I said hi to him and he about died of a heart attack. I explained myself to him as well as I could. He had no idea who, or what, I was. I calmed him down and explained myself to him. I explained that I was just as scared as he was. I told him I had started off as an artwork and my name was Dark. We soon figured out that I was bonded to his genes and whenever he felt romance, I came out. Eventually, I gained enough control to let myself out whenever I wanted. I usually don't take over my tamer's body by force, though. It really hurts the tamer if you do that. I'm sure you've met my other half, Krad. He's killing his tamer. Slowly. But anyway, what's your next question?

* * *

The angel pauses, taking another drink, smiling. He leans forward, watching the woman across the table. She looks down at the notebook in her hands, blinking slightly when she realized she had sketched the blond angel she had spoken to earlier beside the notes she was taking. She looks up and realizes the violet angel is missing. Garnet strands of hair suddenly appear before her eyes, then a cocky laugh sounds in her ear.

* * *

Nice drawing there, Grace. Though, I have to say, I don't really care for the subject matter. But whatever. You're a good artist.

* * *

The angel returns to his seat, laughing at the flush on the woman's cheeks. He leans back, setting his feet on the table, looking up at the ceiling.

* * *

Daisuke's an artist too. He's the first Niwa in his family to do anything with art, other than teal it. I think he's trying to defile his destiny. I think he's pretty good for an amateur, but don't let him know I think that.

Anyway, back to the questions. What do you want to ask next?

How'd I start stealing? Well. . . the Niwas are a thieving family, so from early on, I was introduced to the art. We would switch places from time to time and I soon became really good at stealing art, so we just kept it that way. My tamer, whoever it was would be the one who walked around during the day, while I would steal at night. I soon gained quite the reputation. Thus, I became well known. And Krad's been trying to kill me ever since. I think the only time he didn't try to kill me was when he was with Ryuu.

Did I enjoy stealing at first? Hmm. . . . the first artwork I stole reacted, but I soon got used to that. I really started enjoying the thieving the second time I did it. It is quite fun, avoiding traps and alarms, trying to figure out the codes and layouts, it's really fun. I enjoy the sneaking and the fighting and the tricking.

It's gotten even more fun since Satoshi Hiwatari became police commander. He comes up with good traps. It's hard to avoid some of the traps he sets up. But that's what adds fun to it.

* * *

The violet haired angel laughs again, shifting in his seat. The excitement is obvious in his face. His amethyst eyes are alight with the excitement and there is a slight flush on his cheeks. The woman interviewing him smiles, unable to control it as his excitement spreads to her. The angel grabs his soda, taking another deep swig. He looks over at the clock and stands, pushing his chair back to the wall.

* * *

It's been good talking to you, but I gotta go. I've got an appointment with Commander Hiwatari that I would hate to miss.

Watch the news tonight. You'll probably see my great face as I once again escape the police! See ya!

* * *

With a wave and a laugh, the angel disappears, shutting the door softly behind him. The young woman sits back in her chair, staring at the door where he had just left. A small smile crosses her lips as she reaches out and clicks off the recorder. She checks the clock, then stands, walking out, leaving the room empty and dark.

A/N: So this is Interview With a Demon, the sequel of sorts to Interview With an Angel. To my first time readers, hey! I hope you liked this! It will be set up as an interview with parts interspersed with parts with both Daisuke and Krad. I would advise reading Interview With an Angel, due to several questions that come later.

To those faithful followers, who have been reading IWAA, I hope this is as good as the first one! Thank you for the questions that you have submitted for Dark!!

And if anyone has any questions they've been dying to ask Dark, let me know!
