A Beautiful Night
The night was dark, the great vault of the sky stretching above the city of London; a star filled well breathtakingly displayed for all who wished to gaze upon it. However, to one man in particular, there were other things more breathtaking, more captivating than the vase emptiness of space. To such a one, as he sat atop an empty hill, the sight of Her Majesty's most prized 'hidden gun', The Hellsing Organization, engulfed with towering flames and shrouded with blackened smoke, there was no sight more beautiful.
The vampire allowed himself a quiet chuckle of satisfaction as he watched a young soldier hurl himself upon the grass outside the building, thrashing franticly to quench the thirsty flames that were licking at his flesh. His screams rose high and keening above the roar of the inferno. To the dark figure on the hill, it was pure music.
Slowly the figure rose from his seat, dusting the grass from the enormous scarlet coat he wore with a large brimmed hat of equal color. The thin lips pulled back, baring a mouthful of pointed teeth in a sadistic grin. Behind the darkened glasses, narrowed eyes of amber and bloody red glowed like fresh coals, burning with their intensity. " A beautiful night." He murmured, and the deep voice rolled like a wave from chest. " Such beautiful red colors. So very much like Hell."
Even as he spoke, the windows in the vast mansion exploded outwards onto the lawn, showering the burning bodies of the dead like glittering confetti. The dancing flames reflected off of them, creating the illusion of small showers of fireworks. How wonderfully fitting! After all, what more could one wish for as the grand finale to a Organization that had dedicated itself to the killing of Vampires since its birth, three generations ago. They had a good long run; it is only fitting that they get a final farewell party at the finish. the vampire mused, the hot wind from the building below him gusting up the hill, boiling his long coat out behind him like a river of blood. Lifting his arm, the vampire admired the plain, unremarkable surface on the back of his white gloved hand where the arcane markings of his slavery had once been. Such a delightful sight! His freedom at last!
Throwing back his head, he let the wild laughter that had been bubbling somewhere deep in his core come rushing out, his voice carrying above the screams of the burning humans below. He carried on unchecked for many minutes, his eyes alight with sheer, unfettered joy. How long it had been since he had felt that particular emotion, it was like discovering it anew. And then he stopped, suddenly, and without preamble. Abruptly he turned and made his way with long, ground devouring strides into the darkened, empty forests and fields behind him. He had seen all he wanted to see.
" Such a shame that our parting must be this way, Sir Integral Wingates Hellsing, I should have liked to show you what I intend to do to this world of yours now that I have my freedom again. I'm sure you would have found it...fascinating. However, such freedom would never have been possible as long as you still lived. As it is, with no heir, the esteemed line of Abraham Van Hellsing is broken forever. Since my contract was to serve the Hellsing family, a family that no longer exists, the sorcery that was utilized to enslave me to you has now been rendered null and void." The vampire laughed again, manically, as the memory of only one hour ago resurfaced in his mind's eye.
A woman, blonde and be-speckled, dressed in man's suit, the same suit that had been handed down since her great grandfather's time. She lay still, sprawled across the same desk she had occupied for only thirty years, her blue eyes staring sightlessly, anger and shock still plastered across her delicate face. Blood gushed from her slender throat where his fangs had torn it apart. A lit cigar tumbled onto the carpet, where it smoldered and smoked. He remembered her voice clearly as she had gasped her last words. " A...Alucard! Trai...T...Traitor! Damn you!"
Alucard grinned again and pulled his large hat atop his head, brushing the thought away carelessly and licked his lips as more pressing concerns surfaced in his agile brain. It seemed he remembered a few other irritating humans who needed to be dealt with and a certain crazy priest in particular.
High above the trees, a full moon flooded the woods with light. A few dark clouds scuttled across the sky. The vampire's last words spoken to the chilling air were soft and thoughtful as his body vanished in a swirl of black smoke, his body melting away like mist. " What a beautiful night."
