It was an impulsive move that he could not logically explain. He could not even remember the exact time in question either. The Captain, it seems, had 'spiked' his drink but he could not have been the only one with spiked drinks. The hangover was an unexpected side effect. He had not consumed very many drinks so the Captain must have used a potent additive that would be the only reason for the impulsive act and the subsequent hangover.
Long fingers rubbed at his temples to facilitate the reduction of his pain. As the headache eased he felt a new pain coming from his left ear. Gingerly he stood and made his way over to his mirror, "Computer, lights at forty percent."
The lights rose in brightness as his eyes widened.
"What has the Captain talked me into as a result of my inebriated state?" He questioned quietly as he traced the shell of his ear. It took a fair amount of control not to hiss in pain, which he attributed to his less than perfect mental being, as his fingers touched the source of his confusion.
Spock straightened and was dismayed that there was no regulation that required him to remove the piercing. Only his returning Vulcan composure kept him from sighing as he changed into his uniform and made his way to the bridge. Pretending not to notice the stares and whispers Spock bent over his station as the metal in his ear gleamed in the light.
A hand clamped onto his shoulder and a husky voice practically purred in his ear, "I see you kept the piercing."
"There was no logical reason to remove it, Captain. I am not in the habit of wasting Credits." Spock replied, his eyes darkening with desire.
Kirk moved to pass by Spock and quickly flicked the bar in Spock's ear. The shiver was barely noticeable but it cemented Spock's choice to keep the Industrial piercing and also to hide the ninety percent pure chocolate liquor.
