Title: Nostalgia
Fandom: Vampire Game
Pairing: Laphiji/Seiliez
Notes: Inspired bythe 'About Laphiji' panelfrom the postscript from volume 2. Um...I'm a bit worried about characterizations so I'd love to hear what people think about that especially...

It was a warm, spring night, the full moon's light shining in through the open window and a gentle breeze accompanying it. They were in Laphiji's room, just the two of them enjoying each other's presence. Seiliez had settled comfortably on Laphiji's bed and since become absorbed in a book he had randomly plucked off of Laphiji's bookshelves a little while before. He had ceased paying attention to the other man in the room with him, concentrating only on his reading, but when he began to sense an atypical silence settle in the room, he looked up. Laphiji was standing at the end of the bed, just looking at him, and their eyes met.

"Laphiji? What's wrong?"

Laphiji shook his head. "Nothing's wrong. I just like watching you."

"Oh."

There was a slight pause, but then he looked down at his book again. He didn't really mind being stared at; he was pretty used to it. Though it was a bit distracting when you were trying to read, especially when it was Laphiji watching.

He tried to continue reading, but just a few minutes later he sighed and closed his book after marking it with the attached binding-ribbon, looking up just in time to see Laphiji turn and walk over to the window. With a curious expression, Seiliez watched as he stopped in front of it and stared out, face blank.

Laphiji didn't speak and Seiliez remained quiet, waiting to see what Laphiji would do or say. Finally, his patience was rewarded and Laphiji opened his mouth. But instead of telling him something, Seiliez was surprised to hear words in a familiar tune come flowing out.

Beautiful, he thought, leaning back and tilting his head up a little to better hear the song. Laphiji didn't sing very often, but he always loved it when he did.

The song continued, and Seiliez's mind began trying to place it. It felt very nostalgic, but he couldn't place a title with the melody. It was just beginning to bug him when it suddenly clicked.

It was a song from their childhood, one of their mother's favorites. Of course, she had never once sung it to him, and the maids who had taken care of him either hadn't known it or hadn't thought to sing it to him, but someone else had...

He remembered times when he was sad from something their mother had done when he was a young child, how he would either run to Laphiji or Laphiji would run to him. And sometimes, when it was especially bad and he couldn't stop crying, Laphiji would sing this very song, and it somehow got Seiliez to calm down. He had almost forgotten it, after not hearing it for over ten years, but now he remembered. That was how he knew this song; from Laphiji.

He closed his eyes and listened closely, cherishing this rare reminder of his past that was actually sweet instead of bitter, no matter the circumstances surrounding its occurrence back then.

It took him a few seconds to actually register that the sound had stopped, so caught up in it was he. Opening his eyes, he looked back over at Laphiji and found the younger man once again watching him.

He set the book aside and slid off the bed, walking over to Laphiji and just looking up at him for a moment, before he leaned forward and wrapped his arms around him, resting his head on his chest.

"Thank you," he whispered.
