Title: Comforting Sounds
Drabble: #25
TK's prompt: Killer bunny
Randomly selected pairing: Taikeru
Disclaimer: I don't own Digimon.
Notes: I thought I was going to have trouble with the 'killer bunny' prompt, but actually this has turned out to be my favourite drabble so far.
Takeru shifts restlessly, his fists clenched and his face contorted with silent fear. His eyes remain shut, even though it's against his subconscious will, and his jaws are locked firmly in place as if moving them would provoke some unspeakable terror. Somehow a small, pathetic whimper still manages to escape. A thin layer of cold sweat coats his brow and the bridge of his nose, sticking his hair to his forehead and making him feel uncomfortable. He tosses again, eyebrows knitting together as his toes curl and a painful cramp shoots up his leg.
Then he bolts upright, eyes wide, breathing irregular and heavy. His fingers are still wrapped tightly around the sheets and it doesn't take him long to realise what woke him up. Cradling his foot in his lap and trying to ease the cramp away, he glances over at the groggy and sleepy body next to him. No doubt he'll be cranky because Takeru just woke him up, but at least he's still there.
When the cramp has gone, he leans over and gently shakes the older boy's shoulder, murmuring his name. Taichi's consciousness is brought beyond the hazy realm of sleepiness by the sweet voice, and he looks up at Takeru in concern. What's the matter? It's the middle of the night, why isn't he asleep?
Takeru says he had a nightmare, and Taichi closes his eyes again, rubbing his hand over his boyfriend's thigh in what he hopes is a soothing manner. He asks what the nightmare was about, and at first Takeru hesitates. He thinks Taichi will laugh at him; it was a pretty stupid thing to have a nightmare about. A few moments, then he admits it was about a killer bunny, who decided to kill Taichi while he was forced to watch.
Taichi's laugh isn't mocking or teasing; instead it's a little sleepy and it makes Takeru feel a bit better. He doesn't have to worry, Taichi tells him. They'd faced the Dark Masters, and more of the most powerful Digimon, before. If he ever encountered a killer bunny, or anything of the sort, he'd be able to handle it. Takeru wasn't going to be able to get rid of him that easily.
Does he promise?
A squeeze of the thigh and yes, he promises.
