1. Cages—

It was during those terrifying nights when thunder roared and lightning reigned that Max would find comfort in the fact that Fang's presence was only a few cages away.

2. Promise—

He cannot forget the way Max begged the whitecoats to stop, and the screams that ensued when they didn't. The images burn in his mind, and her cries still echo his ears. So Fang swears an oath to the rising sun. "I swear we'll escape this hellhole."

3. Nightmare—

Max wakes up gasping, with the telltale wetness of tears on her cheeks. It was only a nightmare, she forces herself to believe. Just a bad dream. But little does she know, her reality is even worse.

4. Freedom—

Fang allowed himself a smile, just this once. Because he couldn't deny himself life's simple pleasures when Max's laughter echoed through the skies and her smiles blinded the sun. Their wings were finally free.

5. Silence—

Quiet is a luxury when you're saving the world. But in the rare moments when the rest of the flock is sleeping, and no Erasers are in sight, Max and Fang watch the setting sun and let the silence speak for what they cannot —or will not—say.

6. Armor—

Fang knows she always wears that invisible armor of hers. It's in the guarded expression on her face, the ready fists at her sides, and the rising emotions she tries so hard to force away. It's why he feels that guilty satisfaction when she tosses away the barriers just this once, just for him.

7. Choices—

Fang tells her it's her choice, and though Max has made countless sacrifices in the past, her aching heart refuses to allow Max to let him go. So she takes a leap of faith and hopes he'll catch her when she falls.

8. Excuses—

She deny their love again and again, with excuses of all kinds. But those excuses can't hide the red dusted on her cheeks, the spring in her step, or the ache in her heart whenever she says that vehement "NO!"

9. Silence—

Sometimes Fang's silence is the calm before the storm, and sometimes it's just his version of blissful retreat. But what irritates Max to no end is that she can never tell whether the silence is hiding his pain or his happiness.

10. Voices—

Fang knows about the Voice. The whole flock did. But only Fang knew about the other voices in her head. The ones telling her she was weak, mocking her failures, taunting her dreams. Calling her the coward she is. Max was all right though, because Fang is the only voice that mattered to her.
