The Things That Went Wrong
How did things end up like this? He knew he loved Sora, but the boy refused to look at him now. He had confessed his feelings to the young brunette, had watched Sora walk away without a word. Roxas had been watching, standing silently there with Axel. He had watched as Riku's heart fell, fell to the ground to be stomped upon by the brunette as he walked off. Riku knew that day was the beginning of the end.
He started to hang out with Axel and Roxas. Sora avoided his brother like a drug these days so Riku knew he wouldn't have to see the boy. Day after day he avoided the brunette as much as possible, felt himself drawing nearer to Roxas. The blonde was comforting, kind, gentle, considerate. He was quiet and withdraw, but he lit up when he was Axel. He was everything Sora was not. Riku felt himself beginning to grow jealous of Axel. He wanted what the elder had. He wanted Roxas.
The day came when he was tired of waiting. He was tired of sitting at the table and watching Roxas and Axel together. Riku stood up and walked away from the sight.
Sora was nearby.
"Riku" Riku stopped dead in his tracks when he heard the voice. His hand clenched into a fist and he turned to stare at the brunette who was leaning against the wall like he was the coolest person alive. Riku wanted to speak, to tell him off, but he didn't get a chance. He turned at the sound of arguing coming from the other side of the hallway. Roxas and Axel. Riku's frown grew. He turned away from Sora, put on his stoic look and walked towards the arguing couple.
"Come on Roxas" He took the blonde's hand and went to pull him off. Roxas looked over his shoulder at Axel who was already walking away from them. "What were you arguing about?"
"It doesn't matter Riku. Things went wrong, that's all that matters. Seems both of our lives are royally screwed up now."
"Well, at least we can be screwed up together" Riku gave the blonde a little smile and it was returned. Together they walked down the hall hand in hand. Axel didn't exist, Sora didn't exist. In that moment it was just the two of them, and the things that had gone wrong.
