"I now pronounce you man and wife."
"Um, I need to speak to Emily or
Richard." "Certainly. Hold on." "Hello?" "Grandma?
It's Rory." "Well of course it is. Who else would call
me Grandma? I've decided that I need to get rid of that maid. Her
manners are just horrific. Where are you calling from, dear? The
noise in the background is awful." "I'm calling from the
hospital, Grandma. There's been an accident."
"Gilmore
residence."
"So. . .what's next?"
Luke's grin bordered on devilish. "There's something about a wedding night, isn't there?"
Lorelai wasn't entirely sure why she blushed. "Perhaps at my place?"
"Deal."
"Dad?" "Rory?
It's good to hear from you! How are things going?" "Not
so good at the moment. Mom was in a car accident." "She-
what? How is she? Is she okay?"
"Hello?"
"So who will we tell first?"
"Definitely Rory. We probably should have told her before we did this."
"It's a little late for that."
"We should really dwell on the amount I had to drink. You know, build up the 'I wasn't thinking clearly' thing."
"Way to make me feel special."
"Oh, shush."
"Rory!
What's up?" "I'm calling from the hospital. Mom and
Luke were in a car accident." "No! How is
Lorelai?" "She's not doing well. The doctors think
she'll pull through but I'm honestly not too sure." "And
Luke? How is he?"
"Hi, Sookie, it's Rory."
"Did we really just do that?"
"What?"
"Get married. Elope. Whatever you want to call it."
"Yeah, we did."
"It's Rory Gilmore. Is Liz
there?" "Yeah, she's here. Hey, kid, are you a baseball
fan? Did you see the Yankees game tonight" "T.J. I need to
speak to Liz. Now." "Okay, okay. Hold your horses. What do
you need her for?" "It's about
Luke."
"T.J.
here. What can I do for you?"
"Luke?"
"Yeah?"
"You know I love you, right?"
"Yeah."
"Umm,
hi. Is Jess there?" "Sure, he's right
here." "Hello?" "New girlfriend?" "Excuse
me? Who is this?" "It's Rory." "Rory, huh?
Where'd you get this number?" "Your mom gave it to me.
She thought I should call you." "Why?" "Your
uncle and my mom were in a car accident tonight." "Yippee
for them. Is everything okay?" "Not exactly."
"Hello?"
"Luke? Luke, where are you?"
Rory leapt from her chair to her mother's side. "Mom? It's me, Rory."
"Where's Luke? Where am I? What happened?"
Rory clutched her mother's hands, tears in her eyes. "You and Luke were hit by another car on your way home. You're in the hospital now."
"Where's Luke? Is he okay?"
"Mom-" Rory's breath caught as she responded. "Luke didn't make it."
