So, a friend of mine recently had a birthday that turned out to be sort of a bummer. I wrote this as her birthday present. Happy Belated Birthday, Robin!

Melvin cleared her throat quietly, her pigtails raising on one side and falling on the other. She twisted her pink cape back and forth between her fingers. Robin had warned her not to disturb Raven while she was floating in the air with her eyes closed. Beast Boy, on the other hand, said it was okay, but only if it was really, really, really important. This most certainly was.

But Raven hadn't woken up. Maybe she was asleep up there. Melvin bit her lip and reached out, tugging on Raven's dark blue cloak cautiously. "Raven." The purple-haired mage breathed a sigh out her nose. "Raven?" One purple eye opened to peer out at the world around her.

"Oh, Melvin. It's you." Melvin nodded, her pigtails bouncing with the motion. Raven un-crisscrossed her legs, now standing on the floor. "What is it?" She held out her little box of Crayola markers.

"There's some missing," said the pink-clad girl. "They didn't make enough!" Melvin rocked back and forth on her heels anxiously after Raven took the yellow and green box from her, clasping her hands behind her back.

"Crayola Multicultural Markers," the violet-haired sorceress read off the packaging. "Eight different skin tones, to help teach kids tolerance." The mage's purple eyes scanned the box, the varying shades of brown peeking out at her from behind the smile-shaped window. "What do you mean, 'some missing,' Melvin? The box is full." Her grown-up friend's tone was gentle and patient. Melvin huffed and crossed her arms, then snatched the box back.

"There's some missing," the girl repeated, her pigtails swaying as she dumped the markers onto the floor. She dropped heavily to the floor herself, starting to pick through the markers as she splayed her legs out in front of her. "See? This one's Robin and Teether." She set the marker aside. "This one's Cyborg, and, when I press down really hard, this one's Starfire." The two markers joined the Robin-colored marker off to the side, and she reached for another. "And this one is me an' Timmy."

The little girl pushed her pink cape aside and reached into her pocket. "And, when I color really light, the pencil is you." A smile smeared across the girl's face like chocolate, and she put the pencil down beside the markers. "They figured everyone's got a pencil, so they didn't need to put you in." Arms folded, the pale-skinned mage raised an eyebrow. "But," Melvin said, her voice rising in pitch as she recalled the seriousness of the situation, "there's no green! How'm I supposed to draw our family with no green?"

Laughter flitted behind the purple eyes for a split second. "Did Beast Boy put you up to this?" The little blonde shook her head, pigtails flying. "Okay, then." Long, pale fingers pressed to her temple, Raven closed her eyes, a quiet smile playing at the corner of her lips. "We wouldn't want a family without Beast Boy, now, would we?" Another box of markers floated over to the two of them, encased in a thin black film. As the box opened itself, the green marker slid out and drifted down into Melvin's hands. She beamed at the new addition to her artist's pallet.

"I bet they just forgot to put it in this box, huh?"

"I'll bet you're right."

Just incase you wondered, I've overcome an obstacle that means I'll have another chapter of Confiscated up soon.
