Trust In Haymitch
Effie stared at herself in the mirror. "Effie, darling, it's okay. They're not yours. You can do this."
Her natural hair was in long, brown waves. Her eyes were blue with no makeup around them. Her long, black eyelashes were bold against her pale complexion. In the corner of her mirror, Effie had placed two small pictures. One was of her and Seneca Crane hugging; one was of Peeta, Katniss, Haymitch, and her in a group picture. It was pictures that the press had never seen; those she was grateful of.
Ever since the star-crossed lovers of District 12 won, she was in the limelight along with Peeta, Katniss, and Haymitch. Last night, she had to lean against the wall to call Haymitch and talk, and he said that the rebellious move Katniss made had made the Peace Keepers crack down. He even mentioned that he flicked on the TV by sitting on the control and saw The Hunger Games playing. He sat and watched Peeta and Katniss's; next came his so he flicked the TV off.
Effie's eyes welled up with tears as she looked at the photos all over her room in frames, pinned up, and stuck on her display heads. "I hope Haymitch is right."
Haymitch knocked on the cracked door. "I'm coming in."
Effie croaked, "Okay."
Haymitch walked up to her, and he spun her around. "Effie, why are you crying? It's okay if you're scared for their safety. I am too. Just, please don't cry. I don't want your face to get blotchy. It's okay. We're in this together. Can you trust me? I know it's going to be difficult, Effie. I know, but you can't give up on me now. We can get through this together. My plan will work. Understand?" Haymitch's eyes were staring into Effie's.
Effie's tears spilled over. "But, Haymitch, I've lost Seneca, and I don't want to lose Katniss and Peeta too."
Haymitch took his thumb and wiped away Effie's tears on her cheeks.
"And I don't want to lose you."
Haymitch slowly blinked. "I know that I'm in danger, and if the Capitol knows you were involved, you are too, but I promise I will try to keep myself, Peeta, Katniss, and you out of the direct line of danger. I will try my hardest. Now, I'll never admit it again, but I care for all of you. Even you, Capitol gal," Haymitch said with a small smile.
Effie sniffled. "Thanks Haymitch. Give me another five minutes."
Haymitch hugged Effie. "Okay cupcake. Get ready." He left the room.
Effie took a deep breath and looked in the mirror. "Okay, Effie, you can do this. You have faith in Haymitch, right?"
