Petunia noticed that something was wrong the moment he stepped inside the house. His eyes. They no longer shone with the radiance of her younger sister, Lily. No, they were different. Blank and emotionless.

Just like when James...

She pushed that thought out of her head. It was in the past, and didn't matter. Harry just kinda surveyed the room with this emotionless stare. After a few moments, however, he broke into a smile. "What is it?" Petunia asked. Mentally, she slapped herself. She didn't mean to sound rude.

"It's the same. Nothing's changed...". Harry then proceeded up to his room, leaving behind a very confused aunt.

Later that night, Petunia stayed awake reading her latest romance novel. Trying to, really. She kept on remembering those eyes. Cold, dead, emotionless. So much like when Lily appeared on those steps years ago...

It was an unnaturally stormy winter night. Petunia was sitting next to a cozy fire and watching the news, when she heard a sudden knock on her door. The bemused muggle walked to the door cautiously. Who could be calling on a night like this? Vernon appeared from the room next door, eyeing the door nervously. Petunia took a deep breath and opened the door to the stranger.

Her younger sister, Lilly Potter, was standing there, head bowed and shoulders shaking. It was obvious she was in tears.

"Lil—"

"J-J-James been attacked!" Lilly had bursted out.

Petunia glanced quickly at her husband, before opening the door to let her younger sister in. The redheaded woman stepped inside to the warmth of the house, and Petunia led her to the couch (after hanging her coat). She went to go make a pot of tea, and returned to find Lilly staring into the fire, as though hoping that it would bring her some sort of good news. After handing the young witch her cup and sitting down, Petunia took a moment to observe her sister.

Her eyes.

Petunia had never seen anything like it before. They were empty. Empty of emotion, of feeling. Cold and blank. It sent a chill through Petunia. She gulped. "Lilly? What's happened?"

Lilly looked at her sister as though seeing her for the first time. They haven't spoken in years, so it was as though she was.

"I-I got a message... James was out on duty... It was supposed to be routine... Ambushed... Death Eaters everywhere... James' was the worst one hit... They won't let me see him... They said he won't make it... Oh God!" Lilly screamed as she began sobbing uncontrollably into her hands. "What am I going to do? What if he dies? How am I supposed to wake up everyday, knowing he isn't there? How? HOW!"

Petunia was speechless. Vernon had left the room and Petunia was at loss of what to do.

'Just like that.' She thought, 'Everything can be taken away from you. All your support...'

Petunia had stayed up the entire night, trying to console her younger sister. Her sister that she secretly looked up to. She was talented, smart, brave, strong, pretty. But now... She was just her little sister. Looking for her big protector to help her.

The next morning, and old man with a long beard came to take Lilly. Lilly thanked for her hospitality with those cold eyes.

Petunia snapped her book shut and sighed. Her mind just could not focus that night. She rolled over and turned of the bedside lamp, plunging the room into darkness.

Only a few hours later, was that darkness lifted by a flash of green light.
