It was business as usual as Ianto walked into the Torchwood office. Tosh was at her computer and Owen was with Gwen, flirting with her as she tried to read up on the files for their current case. Gwen was the newest member of the team and was still trying to learn the ropes.
And Jack… He was in his office so Ianto set to work brewing the coffee. One day he'd be more than just the coffee boy, he'd be out in the field with the others. But for now he was the clean up fairy and that would have to be enough.
Knocking on Jack's door, he held up the mug. "Your coffee sir."
"How many times do I have to tell you to knock that sir stuff off?" Jack said.
Ianto shrugged and placed the mug on his boss's desk before taking a step back.
Jack flashed a smile before taking a deep swallow of coffee. "So, did you enjoy your day off?"
"Yes, I did," Ianto replied.
"How did you spend it?" Jack kicked back, propping his feet on the desk. "What does Ianto Jones do on his day off?"
"I um…" Ianto adjusted his tie. "I spent it with my family, my niece and nephew. We watched movies."
"Anything good?"
"You'll laugh." Ianto looked down.
"No, I won't." Jack's lips quirked, but he put his hand to his heart. "I promise."
"It was 'The Princess Bride'. Just over and over, must have watched it five or six times," Ianto told him.
"That's the one with all the kissing, right?" Jack asked. He got up and circled around the desk. "I've seen it enough to know the end." He leaned in close enough that his breath tickled Ianto's ear. "I think it's something like 'Since the invention of the kiss, there have been five kisses that have been rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one left them all behind' Am I right?"
Ianto swallowed thickly. "I believe so, Jack."
They were inches apart. Ianto kept his fingers curled into fists at his side, stopping himself from reaching out and touching the man he not so secretly adored.
Tosh knocking on the door broke the mood. "Sorry you two, hope I'm not interrupting." She looked away, clearly aware of what was transpiring. "The weevils are running a muck in a shopping plaza and there's rift activity. Never a dull moment."
"Of course not," Jack said. He grabbed his long coat off the rack and strode out of his office. "Alright people, listen up: Gwen you go with Owen and get the weevils under control. Tosh and I will trace the rift. Stay in contact and let Ianto know if you a cleanup."
"I'll be here," Ianto said, trying to keep his voice neutral.
The four gathered their gear and ran for the exits, off to save the world again.
"And Ianto," Jack poked his head back around the corner. "Keep that coffee hot for me." And then he was gone.
Ianto turned away. "As you wish."
