A/N : English is not my mother tongue — I am French — and alas, it means that I am not as fluent as I would like to be. So please, be tolerant if I've made some mistakes here and there.
And of course, I do not own Mass Effect or its characters (Bioware does).
The faint and routine sound of the skycar could not pull Tevos out of her reverie. She leisurely observed to the artificial and endless landscapes of the Presidium which faded in a monochromatic and blurry trail. The mundane reality did not appeared as a deep disturbance to the young matron whose mind were filled with relentless thoughts. Her appointment with the Matriarchs appealed her much more than what was going on around her.
Today was indeed a great day for Tevos : she would be eventually told the location of her first assignment as an ambassador. Ambassador. The word rang beautifully in her mind. It was the recompense of her efforts, the reward of her own talents, the opening of an attractive and glorious future. She deserved it. Yes, when the Matriarchs offered her the opportunity to obtain a higher rank in the Asari Republics, after spending so much time as a personal assistant, she was fairly certain she would finally shine.
This was a proposition she could not allow herself to refuse. After all, her dear mother - Hemera T'Inctoris - was a followed Matriarch and a respected member of the Serrice Council, and just as important, her father – Sempronis Gracchus – was a Turian Primarch. She, a promising asari, a mere matron who had been grown up with politics, who had spent her childhood with her mother, who used to travel in near all areas in the Galaxy, to study the alien cultures, and to get acquainted with the political ropes, was actually meant to become what she was and what she had to be : a great and powerful politician.
Her mother told her two positions were opened at the same time, due to some internal restructurings but she didn't really care. What caught Tevos' intention was actually the location of the affected Embassies : Palaven and Irune. She smiled inwardly : thanks to her familial origin, she would be given the Turian homeworld for sure. But not only because of that. Because she deserved it. She had always been the best at University and at work. Palaven would only enlighten her radiance. Not that the Volus were absolutely uninteresting but it did not seem legit for her, more exactly, Irune was not worthy of her.
When she finally arrived in the waiting room, she had the surprise to see two other asari who obviously were waiting. In fact, she should not be staggered since it was absolutely normal to see people waiting in a waiting room. Then, she could not help but wonder why three persons, including herself, were attending the meeting while only two posts had to be filled. Perhaps the third one was a friend or an assistant, she idly hoped. But her ray of hope vanished as soon as the Matriarchs summoned them one by one. Worse, they kept her waiting in the waiting room and assessed her last.
Tevos' usual poised composure started to crack as uneasiness flourished along her core. But that was nothing compared to the surprise that awaited her.As a matter of fact, it occurred that three positions instead of two had to be bestowed. The two other asari, who appeared at the end of their assessment very self-satisfied, obtained Palaven and Irune ; Tevos, for her part, received the Terminus System. She did not deserve it.
