So this story (if it's even long enough to be called a story yet) takes place after Carpenter's first big spiel when he gives Kaylie to the hunters. This chapter has no importance to the plot, it's just a start to a possible story, I'll see if i get any reviews. Hopefully I have a good enough understanding of the plot, this damn game isn't popular enough and I have a hard time finding the cut scenes and plot descriptions; also it's been awhile since I played it so I hope this isn't too far off the mark!

If there is any confusion as to which hunter game this is from, it's the first one. I played it on gamecube but it also came out for Xbox, this is the one before Wayward or Redeemer. Martyr is my favorite hunter, so you'll probably be reading a lot of CarpenterxMartyr if you get into this story. Enjoy!

Martyr kept the barrels of her pistols aimed straight ahead. She couldn't see anything, but she knew what was out there. It was starting to get cold as the night seeped further into the streets and a thick fog began to drift in. She could see her breath floating in front of her as she cautiously exhaled. It was dangerous to let her guard down, but all she wanted was one moment of relaxation. She began to welcome the idea as the grip on her weapons loosened...

"You're not tired already, are you?"

A shadow moved somewhere behind Kassandra; she knew that voice. Her spine stiffened as she tried to compose herself and come up with a response that would hide the uneasiness she felt.

"You've gotta be kidding me. I just killed 50 of those rots; you think you're gonna be the one to do me in?"

she sneered, bringing her hands to her side but refusing to turn around.

"Hey, hey, easy now. I'm on your side, sweetheart, remember?"

Martyr felt him closing in. All she could do was close her eyes and tense her muscles, she couldn't show any fear. When he was close enough, Carpenter lowered himself to her ear as his cold breath relayed the message he came to deliver.

"Big bad is coming, sweetheart. You better make sure you get everyone out of this town, you remember what I said would happen, right? Why don't you pay a visit to Ashcroft Prison?"

"Why are you helping us, Carpenter?"

Kassandra started to regain some confidence. She was getting over the initial shock of Carpenter's sudden appearance.

"Well, I'd say it's because I like you."

Carpenter's right hand crept up martyr's side and wrapped around her arm. With his left hand he slowly unsheathed one of his carving knives and hugged it to her jawline. Martyr's newly gained confidence fled from her as she began to shake; she couldn't keep herself composed while Carpenter was so close. A strange silence hung in the air as she stared ahead, unable to move. Her finger stiffened around the trigger of her gun as she tried to bring herself to lift her arm, but when she finally convinced herself to take action, Carpenter withdrew his blade and starting walking backward into the night.

"Until next time, then." He whispered as he faded into the thickening fog.

Martyr's eyes were still fixed in front of her as she confirmed that she was alone. After a few seconds she dropped her shoulders and relaxed her posture.

"God damn it!" she spat as she slapped the air with her pistol and marched off to find the others.
