Before writing this, I promised that it would be longer than the original version I posted about three years ago, but alas...

I'm not sure if anybody remembers this story, but I was really interested in writing a revamped version of my old fan fiction, using the skills that I've learned from the creative writing course that I have taken since. So, leave a review with what you think of the new version, I guess? Or if you didn't read the first version, then stick around and I'll try to keep on top updating this story (if that's what people want).

The grass crunched under Elphaba's feet. She couldn't be sure how far she and Fiyero had walked by this point, but the heat was far more intense than any she had experienced before. Fiyero had kept at least five steps behind her since they'd cleared Munchkinland, and hadn't stopped whining about how tired he was. Elphaba wasn't even aware that Scarecrows could get tired, but after the fifth complaint of the hour, she finally agreed to take shelter under the closest tree for the night. The two of them lay down together, Fiyero snuggling up behind Elphaba - pieces of straw pushing against her back. She had become used to Fiyero's new 'texture' though, and was far too tired to care in any case. She rested her head on a tree root and fell asleep within minutes.

ARF ARF ARF! ARF ARF ARF ARF ARF!

'Shhhh, Toto! You'll wake them.'

Elphaba lifted her head, looking over to where she'd heard the noises. She heard a quick yelp, a set of prying eyes ducking behind a nearby boulder. She groaned, lifting Fiyero's arm from around her waist and investigating.

ARF ARF ARF ARF ARF ARF ARF!

Oz, it sounded as if it were that god awful dog, Dodo! But if that were true, then those eyes must belong to -

'P- please don't hurt me.'

Dorothy's brown eyes looked up at her, wet with tears.

They were definitely not in Oz anymore.
