Hinata's POV*
Hinata thought she would just about explode. "It's Naruto-kun's birthday. It's Naruto-Kun's birthday. IT'S NARUTO-KUN'S BIRTHDAY AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO GIVE HIM!" She let out a squeak, for she had scared herself with the level of her own excitement. She turned her head frantically, looking left and right for a magical object that would be suitable for Naruto's birthday to appear.
No such luck.
She sighed, and then shrank into her sweatshirt. Just when she was about to walk on and look fruitlessly for a present, she heard footsteps approaching. Her eyes widened and she tried her hardest to condense herself to nothing.
Naruto's POV*
Naruto was on his way to lunch.
The sweet, heavenly fantasies of a tasty bowl of ramen danced in his head, causing his mouth to water. Then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw what could be most closely compared to as a turtle, but with a sweatshirt rather than a shell. Curious, he stooped down to examine the lump of sweatshirt that was currently on the verge of suffocation. He poked it, causing a shriek to emit from the lump. Naruto stepped back in surprise. Then, he smiled.
"Hinata! What are you doing?"
He saw a large, pale eye look out from a small gap in the folds of her sweatshirt. "U-um..." she whispered.
He learned further. "Hmm...?"
"Um."
He stepped back and pretended to begin to walk away.
Hinata's POV*
Just as she was beginning to emerge from her shell, she found herself being swiftly scooped up from the ground.
"EEK!" shrieked Hinata as she felt herself moving further and further from the ground. She looked down, only to see the face of her true love smiling back at her. He spun her around and then set her back on the ground, sending her wobbling dangerously close to the wall. Suddenly, she felt herself being caught in a warm embrace rather than slamming into the cold stone wall.
Naruto chuckled and released Hinata." You really are weird, aren't you?"
She dizzily stared at Naruto and felt her face flush. "Is there anything you wanted to tell me?" asked Naruto.
"U-um..."
She pushed her pointer fingers together and glanced at the ground. 'What do I do? What do I do?' she thought frantically. She took a deep breath and summoned all of her courage. Quickly embracing his abdomen, she buried her face into his jacket and said, "HappybirthdayNaruto-kun!"
Naruto looked down at Hinata with a surprised expression, and then smiled. "Aw, thanks Hinata!" He wrapped his arms around her.
Hinata pressed against Naruto and snuggled into his arms. She felt so safe. So warm. So happy. She smiled and never wanted to let go. Never leave his arms. Never leave his side.
She heard him speak. "How about you join me for lunch? I was just about to go get some ramen."
Hinata thought she would explode. "Mm." she nodded, giving him one last squeeze. She reluctantly let go and stepped back. Naruto extended his arm to her and smiled. She clutched it firmly and leaned her head on his shoulder.
"Naruto-kun?"
"Yeah?"
"I-I never gave you a birthday present."
Naruto stopped in his tracks. Taking Hinata's hand in his, he smiled. "Hinata, I think I've just received the best birthday present ever today."
"B-but,"
"Seeing you smile made my day. I've gotten ramen coupons, money, and other stuff like that today, but nothing compared to the smile you just gave me today."
Hinata felt her face flush. "Oh! Well, y-you're welcome."
Giving her one last embrace, Naruto said, "Shall we go, then?" Hinata nodded, and then they were off.
