It was a Monday morning when the Clave Reprosentitive came knocking on the institute.

Valentine had been back on the scene for a few months, and he was threatening to attack us. At first the Clave laughed and told him it would never work as almost all demons were banished.

The following week he sent a fire letter which broadcasted all across the sky in Idris saying one word. That word struck fear into the heart of everyone.

That word was children.

He was using mundane and Nephilim teachers and brainwashing them. Then the teachers were teaching the children to follow and to obey Valentine.

The man from the Clave told us there was to be a war. A man or boy over the age of eight-teen from each household had to go to Idris for some 'army' training. Basically we were going to war.

Robert, Maryse, Isabelle, Clary and I looked at him in sheer horror. Robert was ill and had been in bed for the past two days. Alec stood up and looked at the guy from the Clave.

"Alec please-" Said Maryse rising to her feet.

He held up one hand, "Mother. I'm nineteen in five months. Dad's not well enough and Jace isn't old enough, no matter how good he is."

I stood up and looked him in the eye, "Alec." I hissed, determined to stand my ground, "You aren't ready! I've killed people in battle, where you hadn't killed a demon until three months ago and even then we had to provoke you!" I seen Alec flush at that fact. Isabelle, Clary, Robert, Maryse and the Clave Reprosentitive looked at me, slightly appalled.

"What are you trying to say Mr Herondale?" Said the Clave Rep, "That you would be willing to go to war with your own girlfriends father?" I nodded slightly and swallowed hard. "In that case, meet me at All Hails Church two Saturdays from now at this time."

A few minutes later, the man was gone.

The room exploded with noise around me.

"What the hell do you think this is Jace?" Robert demanded.

"I would have coped Jace!" Alec hissed.

"Your underage!" Yelled Maryse, "They won't let you join!"

"What did you think you'd achive by saying that Alec hadn't killed a demon?" Yelled Izzy.

Only Clary stayed quiet.

I lost patience and yelled at them to shut up. "Look." I said through gritted teeth, "At least it isn't tearing a whole freaking family apart. Is it Robert?" I said, staring into his eyes for a few seconds before he dropped my gaze, "Is it Alec?" I demanded, turning my gaze to my parabatai.

Clary got up and ran from the room, allowing the door to slam behind her. "That's who you'll tear apart Jace. Her more than anyone." Murmured Isabelle. I got to my feet and followed Clary out.

She stood staring at me for a few seconds, giving me a different look than she had ever given me before. A few seconds later, she sagged against the wall and slid down it.

I sat down a second before her and pulled her on to my lap. "Jace.." She whispered. "If I lost you I don't know what I'd do..." She whispered.

A tear slid down her cheek and I brushed my fingers and caught it. "Please Clary." I said, "I'll come back."

Clary looked at me, her green eyes burning into my gold ones, "That's what Stephen said to Celine and Amitis." Her voice wavered and I hugged her tighter.

"I swear on the Angel I'm coming back." I said and kissed her nose.
