AN: So, I'm aware that Sakura planned to die with Sasuke in canon. But that would be short.
You know what's more fun?
Making everyone suffer more. And maybe something about villains and the shinobi world. Sure.
Done (With You)
Prologue
Her hands hurt. Her wrist ached. Her fingers cramped. Her grip remained steady.
It didn't need to be. She could let go. Damn it, she could let go.
Red so dark it almost looked black slowly worked its way through cracks and crevices along her skin. Was it new, though? It still looked fresh, but had it splattered across her arm when she tried to heal, or when she cut out her own heart and threw it into the water below?
She didn't remember. Couldn't tell.
Her breath caught in her throat, fought to burst free and echo from the bridge above as laughter. She wanted to scream.
His eyes were so dull, she wondered if he'd ever seen her even when he looked at her.
Why did he look so damn relieved?
She felt nothing but hate. He felt nothing but hate. Madness and darkness consumed everything that used to be him. He'd fallen so far she'd almost not recognized him when she looked at him before.
He'd been so angry, so hateful?
Why did he look at her with such relief?
Metal shone in the dim light of day, blade held out in front of her. Darkness spread out through the water underneath her, surely on its way to consume the world. Surely it would consume her next.
Someone held her shoulders.
Someone shook her.
Her head jerked back and forth in a painful way, arcing her vision up to the clouds and down to the darkness below. Her arms fell to her side, limp. Her grip didn't waver even a little bit.
Naruto.
Naruto stood in front of her, screaming. Over and over.
Why?
Why?
Why was he screaming?
Why?
Why?
How could she?
Someone appeared between them, prying her from his grip, and she fell to her knees. She hadn't noticed until then that Naruto had held her up.
In the murky water below, she could see nothing.
She couldn't see any light reflected in it at all.
