Stay Until the Fall

Default Chapter- A Summer of Second Thoughts

Ginny Weasley stepped out into the warm Spring day. Letting the sun bathe the skin on her face and the wind blowing through her short red hair, taking deep breaths.

Today was the first day of the rest of her life, her first day as an engaged woman. That's right, she was officially unavailable and was still caught up in the excitement. Her entire life she dreamed about her proposal from her soul mate, last night, it came true. Almost.

As if her time was concealed enough, the summer was only beginning. This would be her last at the Burrow, next year she's call elsewhere home. Her brother, Ron, had his same two best friends coming as they always did. Hermione Granger and Harry Potter. Hermione was Ginny's roommate throughout her years at Hogwarts, and Harry, well Harry and Ginny had quiet the past together. For him, it began in the Chamber of Secrets, for her, the age of ten. But that's a chapter all it's own.

There was a reason, just one, that applied to both of them. About a week ago, Ron told her that Harry had gotten engaged. He proposed to his longtime girlfriend, she accepted.

It hurt.

Yes, Ginny was in a relationship herself, but when those words left Ron's mouth, it seemed to slip away. Even after seven years of failing, he never left that special place she always had reserved in her heart. Nothing happened in seven years, they were both free to do what they wanted in life, that's what scared her.

" Ginny" Ron sang from the kitchen window, " your lover boy is here".

A wide smirk streaked across her lips. Forgetting about the shortcut through the house, Ginny jumped off the porch and ran around to the front yard. Expecting to find her fiancé, instead she found Harry. Ron was smirking when seeing her reaction.

" Hi Ginny" Harry smiled.

She did so in return, " hi Harry" her voice gave off a small squeal. That sounded all too familiar.

Upon walking back indoors, Ginny wailed her fist into her brother's stomach.

At nearly one in the morning, she knew he'd be the only one awake. Back at Hogwarts, Ginny and Harry occasionally talks by the common room fire, coincidentally meeting there (well, almost coincidentally). The subject of their conversations never mattering, because by the next morning it was all forgotten.

" Hey" she warmly greeted, descending down the steps.

Harry looked up from the book he had been reading by the fire, " hi".

Ginny walked closer, sitting on the floor across from him, " you're turning into Hermione there".

He placed a silk ribbon against the page, closing the book and placing it next to him. " After eight years, she was bound to rub off somehow".

Ginny laughed, then paused for a moment, " I wanted to congratulate you, for you and Cho".

He smiled, " thanks, and to you and Dean, you two will be very happy together".

She gazed at the band on her finger, twisting it around, " yeah, I hope so".

" He's lucky to have you".

" Not as lucky as Cho is to have you".

Two separate beds, two separate rooms, yet the chains of thought were the same. Ginny wondered if she was right for Dean. Was he her soul mate? Maybe it didn't fit, because it wasn't meant to be. Then there was Harry, who was wondering, if Ginny was the one for him.

Authors Note- Honestly, I wrote this in 15 minutes just to get the idea. I can do a lot better, and I have a plot all set to go. This is just to see if you all like it, and you know how to let me know!
