"No," the word fell from her lips, so utterly broken. That's what she was, what she felt when she saw Katie lying on the ground. "You can't do this to me!" she screamed at the body once full of so much life it was impossible to imagine that she was dead. She was meant to be indestructible, especially after her seventh year when she survived touching that cursed necklace – she visited her every day in St Mungo's. The brunette touches her lifeless face now, reminiscing her best friend, her lover; those stolen kisses in the Gryffindor locker room, finding their way into each other's beds at night.

"Alicia," it's her voice, but how? She was dead, right in front of her, she could see it. "Turn around, love," she shuddered as cool breath blew across the back of her neck. How she loved being called that by the only person who she did love, could ever love. So she listened to her voice and she was there, somehow. Alicia knew that her best friend's body still lay on the ground behind her, but she was there. The blonde was kneeling right in front of her, and that's when the tears finally broke free – sobs wracking through her chest so hard she thought she could explode with all the pain she felt.

And then they were kissing; lips pressed as hard as they could together, hands clutching at each other as tears rubbed off on each other's cheeks. She was perfectly real to Alicia and that's all that mattered. "I love you, I love you, I love you," the cracked whisper escaped her lips over and over and over again. "I know," was all Katie replied as she caressed her tan cheek and stared into the eyes of her only love. "Goodbye," she finally said, giving her friend a bruising kiss before standing. And when Alicia blinked again, she was gone.

The roar of the battle was still in her ears, but now she didn't care. Her fingers pushed Katie's eyelids closed as she stood. Nothing seemed real anymore, and it didn't matter. She threw herself into the battle again, lips uttering Unforgivables at the Death Eaters as all sense flew from her.

She turns, and there's a man pointing a wand at her and a flash of green. When her eyes open again, Katie's standing there and gives a sad smile as she takes her hand as they board their last train together.
