Sarcasm.
It's a little something every single one of us use now and then. Its use is employed in many of the TV shows we watch. We listen to radio hosts use it on the radio every day, or just as often as we can stand the babble of words and mumbles in our ears. But sarcasm is also used in daily life. We just don't always catch it.
When my parents were getting a divorce, I heard my mother yell at my father over the phone. She told him that sarcasm was implied and that she really would never take him back. Just before that, her voice had said, "Yes." dripping with sarcasm. I asked my mother if Dad was really coming back to live with us. She softened her glare and sat me down to explain what sarcasm was. I shrugged, acting as if I wasn't disappointed that she had employed sarcasm. But I was.
When I used it at school the next day, no one caught it. So we were in deep trouble. Because what I wanted to do was put what really happened into sarcasm so no one would believe me. Because sarcasm usually works that way, I was told. Seeing how it worked for my mom the other day, I should've had the smarts not to use sarcasm. But I did, thinking I'd sound intelligent.
There was a rumor that I had a crush on that snot-nosed kid Roxas. And of course, I did. Being a "man", I had to defend my dignity. And this is how it came out. sarcasm I totally have a crush on that Roxas kid. /sarcasm Later, the only friend who stuck by me told me all I did was come out sounding gay.
