Hey! I actually typed something up! I wrote this in French. I my defense, she gave us an hour to do something that took ten minutes and she was grading paperwork. I had nothing to do but write.

Sense of Time

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

The sound of the grandfather clock in the living room was the only noise in the apartement. It could be heard the clearest in the living room, where Botan was sitting.

She was in a comfy chair, near the open window, with a lamp turned on nearby. From her spot, she could hear passing cars and the rustle of the leaves outside, caused by the wind. Her hair, for once, was cascading down her back. She was in soft pink pijamas, and, on her laps, was a book.

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

The book had been abandonned a while ago by the bluette. The words had been blurry, floating of the page. When she did manage to read them, they had made no sense, whatsoever. And so she had closed it, not bothering with a bookmark, as she hadn't even finished the first chapter.

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

For the past hour, she had been starring out the open window, a hand under her chin, the other resting on the closed book. Had it already been an hour? Or was it more? Or maybe less? Was it late at night, or early in the morning? Had time stopped while she was waiting?

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

No. The clock was still going. Time wasn't affected by his absence. Where was he anyways? Shouldn't he be there by now? Was he even coming? He should be: it was going to rain soon...

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

"Waiting for someone, Onna?" She jumped, startled. She looked up at the shadow that was balancing on the windowsill.

"Of course not! I was... I was reading!" She said, holding the book up as proof.

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

"What about you, Hiei? Just passing by?" The best defense is a god offense: so says everyone.

"Hn. It's about to rain." She looked at the sky: sure enough, the sky was covered with clouds, the moon barely present behind the clouds. Of course, she already knew all that...

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

"Want to stay here? Kurama's house and the temple are kind of far away: you'd get wet if you tried to go somewhere else."

"Hn." With that, he entered. Botan fought the urge to smile: it was their routine on rainy nights. She would stay up waiting for him, then deny it with whatever excuse she had ready that night, he would say it's about to rain, she would invite him in, and then...

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

He paused, halfway off the windowsill.

"I thought you didn't like it." He said.

… and then he would comment on the clock.

"It's the noise that's annoying: the clock is beautiful."

*The noise is annoying because it reminds me I'm spending time away from you*

For once, Hiei wasn't monitoring thoughts and didn't hear her. Botan closed the window, not wanting her carpet to get wet when it started raining, and the twosome made their way to Botan's room. The fire demon walked over to the window seat while the ferry girl climb in bed.

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

From the living room, the clock was still ticking, but Botan was obvious to it , as she was sound asleep.

A shadow left her room,

Tick. Tock. Tick. To-

and reentered. The house was now quiet without the grandfather clock. Only the soft pitter-patter of the rain outside was heard.

When she was waiting for him, she lost track of Time.

When he was with her, Time just stopped.
