Everybody knows that the dice are loaded,
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed,
Everybody knows that the war is over,
Everybody knows the good guys lost.
— Leonard Cohen

Steve sat alone, far away from his teammates with his head in his hands, wrists bound with unbreakable metal.

He could hear the others, all in separate cells, demanding to know where the others were. He heard Tony call for him, but he did not answer.

He knew that if he did, his voice would break.

You are going to join us, Captain.

Why the hell would I do that?

Because if you don't, your friends will die.

The clink of metal against metal signaled the opening of his cell door, but did not inspire him to look up. He figured it would be another set of guards, coming to beat the ever living crap out of him.

"They tell me that the great Captain America is joining our side," a man spoke, his voice vaguely familiar.

Steve didn't answer and heard a sigh in response.

"Didn't your mother teach you to respond when you're spoken to, Rogers?"

His head shot up, recognition dawning on his face. He would know that tone anywhere.

"Bucky?"

You are going to join us, Captain.

"Spot on, kiddo." Bucky strode over and crouched in front of him, face obscured by a domino mask.

"How-"

"I've been shown the light, kid. And I want you to join me."

Because everyone knows you're tired of fighting.

Steve reached out, wrists bound together, fingers brushing the red star of Bucky's metal arm.

"What...?"

"Long story, Steve. I'll tell you it some other time."

Steve shook his head, mind spinning and tried to get back on topic. "Bucky, I can't join-"

"Yes," he leaned forward until their foreheads were touching. "You can."

Because everybody knows your war is over.

"We could have a long future together, Stevie. No homophobic assholes in our way. Out of the public eye."

"Bucky-" his resolve was wavering.

Bucky's eyes shown brightly. "They don't care if we're together. We can do what we want between missions, we can get married, Steve. Just like we wanted to."

"Buck-"

"It'll be a dream come true."

Because everybody knows that he is your weakness.

"It'll be just what we always wanted, Steve. Just say yes."

"I can't-"

"We can finally be together, baby. No one'll stand in our way. You don't have to fight anymore."

Because for him, you will always say yes.

"Ok, Bucky," Steve's voice was weary, though his eyes shone bright was a hesitant hope. "Whatever you want."

Because you'll do anything to stand at his side again.

"You'll see, Steve. Everything will be alright now. I'll make sure of it."

Did this not make sense to you? Yeah, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me either. I don't even know anymore, but I might write a prequel to make things make more sense. No promises though.

Reviews would be loverly.
