Fear

This can't be happening, Ginny Potter thought. She was in the bathroom after having taken a Muggle home pregnancy test. That was one thing Muggles had invented that she was grateful for even if she did have to pee on it. She cast the charm one more time and sure enough there was a faint glow in her abdomen around her womb.

In a slight panic she sent a Patronus message to Hermione asking her to come over immediately. James was down for a nap and she knew he wouldn't wake for a while. She paced in the living room waiting for her best friend. She was scared and needed the sanity of Hermione to help ground her before making a decision.

The floo flared to life and Hermione appeared in a burst of green flames and soot. She walked over to Ginny and wrapped her arms around her.

"What's wrong?" Hermione asked. "Your message worried me, yet you're standing here and look fine."

Ginny just looked at Hermione with tears in her eyes. Hermione wrapped her arm around Ginny's shoulders and led her to the couch. She summoned a box of tissues and let Ginny cry.

When Ginny's sobs had quieted, Hermione said, "Let's try this again. What's wrong?"

Ginny hiccupped before saying, "I'm pregnant."

"Oh, my gosh! Ginny that's great! Are you sure?"

"Of course I'm sure. I cast the diagnostic charm twice. I even took a Muggle pregnancy test. I'm pregnant!"

Hermione just blinked. "That's cause for panic because…?"

Ginny looked at Hermione. "James is so young. He's not even a year old yet. He still needs so much attention. What am I going to do?"

Hermione turned her knees toward Ginny and grabbed Ginny's hands in her own. "You will do what all women have done in your situation. You will take care of James until you can't run anymore and then you can send Harry after him." Ginny smiled a bit as Hermione continued. "You will give birth to this new baby and take care of both children. And I'll have my baby and we can raise our children together."

It took a minute for Hermione's words to sink in. "What did you just say?"

Hermione beamed at Ginny. "I'm pregnant, too."

"Hermione! That's wonderful! When did you find out? How far along are you?"

Hermione said, "Well, I found out just yesterday. I was going to tell everyone Sunday at dinner. You're the first to know besides Ron. I'm only about two weeks. I only know now because we've been trying for a while and I always check about two weeks after ovulating. I performed the charm again today just to make sure."

"I'm about six weeks by my calculations. I'll have my baby about a month before you." Ginny was competitive, even when upset.

"I was about to make an appointment with a healer when I got your Patronus. You want to make one with me?"

"Sure," Ginny agreed. "I'm still upset about this though. How am I supposed to raise two kids who are only eighteen months apart? I was hoping to wait until James was two."

"Why not ask your mom? She raised seven children. She can give you advice on this."

Ginny brightened a bit. "Why didn't I think of that? I'll do it after the appointment with the healer. I don't want to tell her until I'm one hundred percent sure."

Hermione agreed. "Let's go make that appointment."

"Let's wait for James to wake from his nap first," said Ginny.

They sat there talking about pregnancy and what Hermione could expect in general. They also discussed what books she could buy about pregnancy and child birth. They talked until they heard James stirring in his room. They stood in front of the fireplace to floo to St. Mungo's.

"Ready?" asked Hermione.

"Ready."
