It goes without saying that Bear is grateful for his new pack.

Although he was not abused in the sense of beatings and neglect, his standard of care was not that of a posh New York lap dog.

Fortunately, or unfortunately as the case may be, he has become just that, well, minus the lap dog portion. He no longer concerns himself with such trivial matters such as fleas, a muddy or matted coat, or even long nails. He no longer worries about where his next meal will come from or whether or not it will be actual dog food or human flesh. Now, he sleeps in an abundance of wool-filled dog beds, has baskets of bones and tennis balls embroider with his name in every corner, and looks forward to his timely walks in Central Park.

Although his life holds an odd contingency of violence every now and then compared to a posh New York lap dog, he is with his master through the bone snapping, gun-fire, and the occasional moment he has to close his eyes. Except for as much time is spent in the man in the suit's company, an equal part is spent guarding his Master's submissive partner.

In this, a part of his life is much quieter than before. The library is large but filled with many of his favorite and not so favorite things, including the machine that beeps and whirs profanities to him when he dares to approach his man with the glasses. Nevertheless the submissive male provides his breakfast and dinner, and all the snacks in between, something his Master looks down upon. Bear can always count on the many games of fetch and retrieve on a rainy day.

Though much of his new life has become complacent, spoiled, and of all things ordinary, there are many people and things that confuse and irritate him, even after all this time.
